My son Dadoren's 1st birthday is coming up in April (the 10th). I'm so excited!! I am about to buy his party supplies and make the invitations. My theme is a Prince/knight theme. The cake is custom ordered from Publix to look like a long castle. The invitations are going to be on tan-brown paper with kinda burnt-ish edges and rolled up and tied with ribbon to become a scroll. We're going to have bread (torn up that way it seems like there's more lol), cheese, grapes, and chicken drumsticks. I'm also going to set out ginger ale & sprite with fruit punch ice cubes (dragon's breath punch)....we'll have a dragon pinata so guests can "slay" the dragon.. and for fun I'm thinking of getting plastic wine glasses and letting everyone decorate them and take them home + ring pops.. not sure what else to give away in a goodie bag... Anyway- what do you think? I can't wait!!!!!

That's my friend's birthday, too! She's turning 25 this year. Anyway, the party preparations sounds really good. I bet it would be memorable for everyone. Remember to take lots of pictures so your son will be able to see what happened during his birthday. I hope it would be a happy one and a success on your part!

What a great idea for his birthday party! I know that you can buy crowns that you can embellish, which might be fun if there are other older kids who will be there. You can always get a large box (like from a washing machine or tv), and make a "castle" out of it that the kids can play in. Also, you can make a draw bridge at the entrance so it looks and feels like you're entering a castle...How fun! My son will be turning 1 in April, also. But, we are having the hardest time coming up with a theme for his party (he's the third, so I feel terrible since it was no problem coming up with something for the first two!). Anyway, good luck, and have a great time!

Thank you! I do like the castle idea, I thought about doing the drawbridge...we have a long narrow hallway that opens into our living room and I was thinking that the guests will have to have the drawbridge lowered to enter hehehe ... I know there are many themes out there.. I went to a place in my city called Party City and they had like Sesame Street, winnie the pooh, Cars, spongebob... curious george.... If I didn't do a knights theme for my son, I would have done Superman since I am a major Superman fan!!! Good luck with your son's bday, and thanks for the response!!

Congrats on baby's first birthday... i know you are really excited, but my advice is not to overwhelm him. some kids get cranky and easily tired when there's too many people around making too much noise. My daughter got really cranky on her first birthday when all the guests arrived. and she got tired an hour into the party. she only got better after 3/4 of the 50 guests left. Overall, the party was enjoyable for guests, but not for my daughter. For your party goodie bag(for the kids), some snacks and sweets would do. or you could buy some little colouring books and crayons/water colours. Good luck for the party. And a Very Happy Birthday to little Dadoren.

oh wow sorry to hear that! I think we'll have like 20 people, 25 tops... I'm sure he'll get bored of it after awhile but it'll be fun for the older people :) The coloring book idea is great, thanks!!! thanks for the response!

Happy birthday! The first birthday is so exciting. We did our son's first birthday a little more casual than that. We did an zoo animal theme and made chocolate pops with candy molds in the shape of the animals, a favor with my son's name and the date on it. I decided against goodie bags because we had all of our family and friends there and that would have gotten very expensive- a lot of kids. I decided at this next birthday we'll just have a few kids and focus it more on them, and then I'll do goodie bags. I think a couple of small toys, some stickers and maybe a bit of candy is plenty. Maybe a small bottle of bubbles.

why not bake some cookies in the shapes of crowns and swords? that way you can decorate these with icings and bejewel them with candies so they'd be colorful. You can also make some small boxes and make them look like treasure chests. Then you can fill them up with candies that look like jewels and chocolate coins. Oh, and by the way, you can tell them a fairy tale and make them want to do some clay modelling. I don't recall what the brand is but there's this clay that you can actually bake and turn into an eraser afterwards. That would be nice.
