If you could come to the UK

March 25, 2008 11:48am CST
where would you most like to visit? If it were possible and you were coming over to the UK for a holiday and we were going to meet up I would like to take you to see my home county of Derbyshire. We have the most stunning countryside with lots of lovely county pubs that serve very good lunches, hope that the weather improves though as we have had snow all week end. The other place you must visit would be Nottingham where the castle is. Legend has it that Robin Hood lived in these parts in Sherwood Forest with his merry men and doing battle with the wicked Sheriff of Nottingham. Nottingham is a modern town with historical interest but it also has some good shops

Of course the normal tourist sites are well worth the visit and London in particular but I think it is much better to be shown around by a native of the country to see the real side of it

We have ancestors who went over to Canada so there must be people over there today that we are related to. It is a shame that you do not know from what part of the UK your grandfather came from I have never been into Buckingham Palace but have seen it on many occasions. We took our children and also the grandchildren to visit all the tourist places in London

The first thing that popped into my head when I read your title, was that I'd like to visit a castle. I think it would be so much fun, and also would give me a better idea of the history of that time period.

I want to see everything I can of England, Scotland, Ireland, Germany & Italy. Some of my ancestors are from England, Scotland, Ireland & Germany so I'd like to see as much of these countries as possible. I just wish I knew what their names were so that maybe I could get in touch with my relitives that are living in these countries now.

You must ask all your older relatives about your family history, it really is fascinating. I have been looking into mine now for a couple of years

Wow, your discription is so attractive. Yes, I would like to go to UK. Base on my impression, it's just so beautiful. I can visit a lot of places of interests. And with your company, I am sure the tour will become even more impressive. But unfortunately the fee is too high for me to afford. My family just do not have that much spare money. I just hope I can be there after I go to work. Thus I can experience the life there myself. Besides, I would like to visit Austria as well. I am a fan of music. Austria undoubtedly will be a fantastic place for a fan like me. Moreover, it's calm. I just like the small and calm countries of that type. Then I would to pay a visit to France. I myself study French too. And after leanrning that much about France, I dream of going there one day. Thus I can visit the castles, try the dishes, participate the festivals and so on. I just would like to live there for some time to experience things I have never seen before.

Thats one of my number 1 goals in life, to visit the UK. I am just mesmerized by your country and it's history. Don't get me wrong, I'm proud to be an American and I love my country, but the UK is just very seductive to me. All of the places you listed sound amazing, I would love to see Buckingham palace and Im sure the shopping is great as well. Im deathly afraid of heights, but I can't help wanting to ride on the London Eye (I think thats what the ferris wheel is called there). Any place with alot of history behind it would draw me in.

The big wheel or the London Eye as its called in the big capital is also doing a tour of the country and we have one in the Old Market Square in Nottingham. Like you I am afraid of heights so have not been on it but there is always a big line of people waiting to go on it. I have never been inside Buckingham Palace but understand it is very grand but I think it is also expensive to get in. Have seen it from the outside on many occasions. I do like to visit London and there is so much historical interest there too

The problem with living in London is you never go and see the sites, ive never been on the London Eye although I would like to, I know I should as its only half hour down the road on the tube lol. London is not where I was bought up, I was bought up in Somerset and must admit I do miss the rolling fields and the long sandy beaches of North Devon.

I like to visit London but I don't think I would like to live there at all too much rush and bustle. For a few hours it is exhilarating but must be tiring to live there.

I live in the UK and I have been so fond of traveling overseas that it is only in the last couple of years I have explored some of the UK. Last year I enjoyed a long weekend in Northumberland. I saw a pretty garden with a tree house, a castle by the sea and I had a boat trip around the Farne Islands. I went to the beautiful city of Chester. I liked going to Warwick Castle. This year I would like to go to the Yorkshire coast to see Robin Hood Bay, Scarborough and Whitby. Picturesque coastlines really appeal to me and I adore seeing native wildlife.

If I was coming to your country I would love to see every nook and cranny! And the historical things...but I have always tried to go outside the tourist areas to see how the real communities live...Your area sounds so lovely! And I would love to see nottingham! I have been to the Netherlands, Germany and Belguim.....but there is a possiblity in the future that I will come to the UK..in a few years....so can I look you up if I do? LOL

The exchange rate at the moment is not in your favour for a visit to this country but I am sure it will change in time and then it will be far better value for you. We have a lot of very historical places to visit and one I keep forgetting to mention is a pub called The Trip to Jerusalem. This is actually built into castle rock and is very quaint, it is supposed to be the oldest pub in England

Sounds like a wonderful tour that you have there. I would enjoy the country side and seeing the castle. I've never been out of the states, and as a matter of fact only been to a very few states here. I've recently gotten a new digital camera and I am sure I would get some fantastic shots there.

you would get some good shots Terri and make good use of the new camera of yours. I have never been to the States which I might soon rectify so what should I not miss over there?

York is another good choice. You can walk all around the wall that enclosed the old town. There are alot of very old buildings there and also York Minster which is worth a look. The Rose Window is fantastic
