Your family expects X and you fall in love with Y, who wins? How much do your personal dating/marriage standards matter as compared to your family's opinion of who you should date or marry?

My family does not influence who I date. They are pleased as long as he treats me well.

Don't worry about it it's common.. Parents just wish you all the good things in life and they go about it without intentional disrespect, distrust or doubt about your capability to do things on your own... You must be thinking about the future when situations may lead to choosing between them and your someone... Take it easy! It's your life! You're the one spending a lifetime with this person and not them. You'd be surprised how difficult it would be for a parent to give away their precious ones to another person they completely don't know...

This is not my situation at all. I saw the question asked on another forum and thought it would be a good question here. I choose my own mates regardless of that my parents say. The only thing they told me was as long as the person is good to you and their not a bum they don't care.

Right or wrong, Y almost always wins. My family would have to present a pretty good argument early on in the game for me to even consider their opinion. I follow my heart, and they understand that what might be their choice wouldn't be mine. They are there for guidance, but they allow me to make my own decisions.

I will be the one who would spend my life with that person so, I should be the one to decide on that but if they don't like the guy, I'll work all the way to patch them up. Good thing, my family likes my hubby and I don't have a problem with that.

I love to do what i like to do. I go according to my family values and i would be choosing a girl according to my family values. So there wouldnt be much difference about the choice.
