Copying and pasting news articles, more money

United States

I cannot yet copy and paste, but when I do I am sure once in awhile I will copy and paste news articles that are interesting. I see some people doing this every post. Surely these articles are longer and it's a fast way to make money on MyLot since it has more characters, more content, etc... How do you feel about this? Do you think it's fair some people put time and effort into writing their own discussions, while others simply copy and paste article after article? I think it's okay if people limit what they copy and paste, but if almost all their discussions are copied and pasted, I think that is a bit unfair, but I don't know... I'm still undecided. What do you think?

To cut and paste is very easy to learn, and if you want, just IM me. It's easy to explain:)I think it's fair, and we, as readers benefit also.

I know HOW to copy and paste, but it's not permitted on here until you've reached 500 posts.

Well, its not against the terms and conditions of mylot to do so.. I think more importantly is getting people to reply in such discussion rather than just copy and paste news in discussions....because activity and replies are the ones that will help one earn, not just a lengthy discussion topic..

Yes, it is. You are not to post any copywritten works per the guidelines. News article - even those found online - are copywritten.

You are not suppose to post copyrighted material, true, but you can link to them. We are allowed to copy and paste other things that are not copywritten. If we were not allowed to copy and paste, we wouldn't have that option after 500 points. Just read the guidelines and you will be just fine.

I am pretty sure copy and pasting articles - either part or whole - is against MyLot TOS and Guidelines. I remember reading that you should not do that, even if you have the link as a reference.

Okay, thanks for the info. I see people doing this time and time AND TIME again, though! So I guess this is NOT fair!

I am one who always posts original stuff, unless it is a tiny Clip of another article or such as if you Copy and paste stuff from other sites all of the time, you will end up having your Discussions reported, and probably removed, and for me, I am not wanting to take that risk. So your Best bet is to continue to Write stuff on your own, and go from there.

Hey, have you heard the news? yeah, people discuss the news all the time in real life so why not in a discussion board? I don't think there is anything wrong with posting news articles as long as they are of interest (and interest is subjective) and a worthy discussion is made out of them. This does seem unfair but personally, I see it as a privilege mylot gives its members for being active.

That is also a good way to look at it. I guess I see nothing wrong as long as the rules are followed, like everyone has stated, and the ENTIRE article isn't posted, and also if the person writes some of their own thoughts about it as well, rather than simply pasting the article and nothing else.

Bethany is wrong. The admin of myLot never allows us to do just copy and paste here. The admin has his own method to prevent the practice of copy-paste. We should type our sentences right here directly.

I think it is ok as long as you can add some of your own stuff with it so it will be original. It can be a good way to start a discussion on an important topic. After all it is the news and that is open to everyone.

This is very true, I agree. As long as you don't copy and paste the entire article without adding any of your own content, I suppose this should be acceptable and fair. Adding your own opinions and starting a discussion with PART of the article, while including the link, which is a valuable lesson I've learned since I started this topic, is a good thing. :)

it is against copyright law, and mylot policy to copy and paste a whole article, read the guidelines, you can paste an excerpt that means just a little part of it but you must provide the link to the original source, if you copy the whole thing mylot can and has deleted discussions when people complain.

The limit is 500posts. Unless you have 500posts you can't copy or paste. Once you reach the milestone, you can do it. With this facility, not only you can copy the required portion of a long article or copy from your own written article, you canalso copy from your responses and modify them to suit different articles.

Last week I accidentally try to copy and paste and a popup told me I could not copy and paste because I didn't have 500 posts and that I might be trying to spam.

Well, its cool thoughts from yours that you will do some copy paste stuffs when you got 500posts... but i don't really think that its so attractive to me, as if your post is too long than most of the people ignore your discussion,,,so i don't try that...yet!!! Keep posting!!!

Copying and pasting your own work can be useful; but for the sake of news articles it is pointless and also copyright infringement. Please remember that the main purpose of mylot is not to make money, it is to benefit the community by offering topics to be discussed. If you would like to discuss a news article, try to summarize it in your own words.

Yes I would definitely do it that way anyway, not copy the entire article, just a part of it for the sake of starting a discussion with it and adding my own two cents as well. Thanks for the tips.

I will not just copy and paste in mylot. From mylot, earning is not so important to me, I just want to improve my English and find something funny in this website. Forget the money and one day you will find that in your account you have earned a lot of money.

I wouldn't copy and paste any news articles. They can be deleted. sooner or later. Those that have done this have had them deleted or will have. It's better to start a discussion with your opinion of the article then leave a link to it.

I don't know much about it. Is it not an infringement of copyright laws? Could you please enlighten me as to what constitutes copyright violation and what not? especially when posting to social sites and blogs.

I don't mind that they copy and paste news articles or other short articles, as long as they write there own discussions as well. You can't stop them from doing it anyway, because it's fast and easy.

I suppose that this action is against the mylot guidelines. It is unfair to other users if some persons copy and paste some articles deliberately. For those who want to explain their opinion more clearly, to copy and paste is just approved. Mylot perhaps can take some measures to solve such problems for providing a fair and positive atmosphere here.
