My sister just emailed me about the fact that drinking cold drinks after a meal can help in the clotting of blood in our veins which may cause cancer or heart attack. Chinese drink hot tea after a meal, dont you think we should be adapt to their drinking habit after eating?

I have received similar e-mail as well - telling how bad it is do drink cold drinks while and after eating, especially if we eat fatty foods because cold drinks can harden the oils in the veins, things like that. I think most of us are guilty with this - drinking cold drinks while eating, because let's admit, cold drink really refreshes us. But I guess it's nice if we can adapt the hot drink after meal, we've got nothing to lose anyway, right?

I have heard that it is good to drink a glass of warm water after eating food that is fatty and greasy because drinking cold water can solidify the grease in the food that you have eaten making it harder to digest. I am not sure how much that affects our veins clotting.

This all makes sense to me. Now, in the Mormon religion, there's something in Doctorine And Covenants, that "hot drinks are not for the belly." This is what they use to justify NOT drinking coffee, tea, etc, (they say it's the caffeine) yet they won't drink decaf either (hot drinks I guess), but they WILL drink HOT CHOCOLATE which has caffeine in it. It doesn't say "caffeine isn't for the belly," it says "hot drinks aren't for the belly." What the heck? And how is it then, if this is the case that they are allowed to eat SOUP?

I have heard this! It makes some sense but our blood is warm and the food should stay warm too! I think it has more to do with enzymes and getting enough of them to digest our food properly! Let's all have some tea, it is good for what ails us and relaxing too!

Yes, we are warm-blooded mammals! I do think our stomachs warm everything up anyway, and mash it up good! I did learn that digestion begins in the mouth, that is why we must chew our food thoroughly before swallowing it!
