http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2008/03/080327172129.htm Yes this study confirms what I already experienced, as an overweight woman my entire life. people that are overweight are discriminated against just as much as race. we are discriminated against in terms of job opportunities, dates etc, and women are more discriminated against than men. now I already did a discussion about fat people here on this site so you guys know how I feel, but how do you feel about the situation, are you overweight do you feel you have been discriminated against?

Like you I'm not surprised by this at all. I have had it happen although not in years. I actually had a place take me down and weigh me before turning me down for a job. The place? Walt Disney World. They have since changed their stance but they have had a few suits brought against them for it. What gets me is something said in there: However, despite its high prevalence, it continues to remain socially acceptable She was right. For many it is socially acceptable to them to treat those who are overweight as second class citizens. They see nothing wrong in it and most of society doesn't either. We see it in the movies and on tv where they make fun of the person who is over weight. Everyone laughs and just goes on with the story. They seldom show how those words or actions can hurt. I also noticed they pointed out that for women the amount of being overweight is much lower then for men. That didn't surprise me either. Society doesn't seem to mind if a man has a few extra pounds as much as when a woman does. It's been that way for a long time. Women have for some time now expected to have very lower body weights or people think there is something wrong with them. It's not right at all. I would like to see more places hit with discrimination suits for but it won't be happening. I checked once before on it and the ACLU is leaving it to the individual states to handle. Even they don't see it as a violation of people's rights. Sad huh?

I agree it should stop for all discrimination. It is not only hateful but so hurtful especially when society continues to allow it to happen. It would be nice to see it change but I wonder if it will in my life time.

Yes, I believe we are discriminated against. I have been overweight all my life and I see it all the time. I wish people would grow up and remember we are people also not just a fat person. Yeah we could all stand to lose a few pounds but so what, your putting us down and discriminating against us isn't going to make it any easier on us. A fat man just means he has a good cook at home a fat women means she stays home eating all day..That is what they think. I would be the same weight I believe whether I had a office job or not. But people do sneer and hold their noses up at us and we don't get jobs sometimes on the fact we are overweight and that we would work to slow or something. I got a job in Ohio at a place called Signstrut and I worked faster then the others who where half my size and done a better job and I my supervisor told me he is glad he decided to give me a test try to see how I would work out because I worked better then some who had been there longer..Don't they know these are considered backhanded compliments..? He was thinking of not giving me a chance because of my weight because he thought I would be slow and lazy. I did quit the job though after a few weeks . Stupid me, I made good money there. But it wasn't because I was lazy or anything, it was because I had to go back home. I had gotten a job while visiting my moms in Ohio.

I haven't been overweight all of my life so I really don't know if people discriminate me for it now. I don't go many places. My little sister has always been overweight though and yes, she does get discriminated against for being heavy. She has a hard time meeting people to date. They tell her she is very pretty but they will not date her until she loses weight. She is close to 30 now and still has the same problem. she thinks she will never be able to marry or have children.

I have seen this alot, not so much because of me, but my sisers 4 of them were obese. I often saw how they were treated, I also know they have self issue problems. So that makes it even harder. But still the world is cruel to anyone out of the norm. What ever that is

I'm over weight. I haven't felt it as much but I think thats because I don't get out much. I'm a stay at home mom in a small town. I didn't become overweight till after i had kids, so the dating thing didn't really happen either. I've seen it happen to friends of mine too. I think my biggest issue is everyone assumes if you are overweight you eat tons of junk food. That isn't how it happened for me. it started when we moved out of state. my husband worked, we only had one car and i didn't know anyone. plus it was winter so i could go outside much. i did nothing put eat and sleep so i put on some weight. now that and 3 pregnancies later i'm 50 lbs overweight. it came on so easy, but i'm having trouble getting motivated to take it off. i want to, but i just can't get moving.
