Listening to othe people speak in their language....

I work as a cashier in a supermarket and we get loads of people who speak various languages!! Do you ever wander what they are saying?? I would love to know what they are saying, especially when they have an arguement!!
I am nosy but I often like the way the words sound aswell.
What do you thik when you hear people speakin a language that you cant understand??

I actually have before sweety but only because the people looked approachable and they were happy to share some words with me - they were Portugese! I think the most surreal experience I ever had was when i was visiting my brother who lives in Spain a few years ago. He lives right next to Gibraltar and when we were walking there to meet my sis in law for lunch he met a woman he used to work with. He speaks no Spanish , she speaks no English and they had a 10 minute conversation each speaking their own language - I was totally amazed and just stood listening, transfixed! it was amazing! i am determined to learn some Spanish so that when I am fit to travel and visit again I will at least have a small grasp of the language and be able to talk to people in their own language! xxx

I think its great that your brother and his friend were able to make their own language up so that they could communicate with each other!! bet you were fascinated with the pair of them! Good luck learning spainish, bet once you have learned some you cant wait to go over and show of your linguistic skills!!

Hey mummymo,
It is fascinated listening to the sound of the language spoken. Can you imagine if you asked them what they were talking about as you liked the sound of their language! Do you think they would be offended or just think you are completely barmy and really nosy??? Maybe turn around and slap you haha

Of course. I have always wished i know how to speak several languages, i am always interested in learning languages. I find it really nice and interesting. and it must be great to know what foreigners are saying.
I dont feel offended actually, but i feel really helpless and would die to know what they are talking about. he he

It is interesting and would be great if we could understand them (even though that sounds like evesdropping!!) I do feel helpless aswell also just want to say 'yes I agree aswell' to them!!
If you could learn any language which would be the one that you would learn??

Some people get offended, I don't understand why because I like it too. It it wonderful to listen to other languages. I do get curious but never angry. I once told someone that the only reason they were offended is because they assumed the people speaking a different language were speaking about that person. I was right. That is exactly what she was afraid of. The way I see it we should all speak whatever language we wish too. If other people are offended its because they're paranoid.

I dont get offended but it is a pain in the butt when your waiting for them to pay for their groceries witha long queue and their too busy arguing or chatting in their language!!
I try not to stare at them while their chatting but cant help it! I dont mind if they are talking about me as I cant understand them anyway, you never know they could be complimenting my on my nice green uniform lol

I will feel upset.once I was a teacher,my students are all local people and speak native languge,at first ,I cant undertand anything ,after days and try to learn and talk with them,I can speak a little,then I am glad;

I would wonder a lot too.
I think languages are interesting. and I just feel, wow, would be extremely cool if someone mastered all languages of the world. LOL. but I wonder if it's possible. :P I wish I could understand.
back then when some strangers were confused with something, as I noticed, they were talking in some language and couldn't speak English at all. at that moment, I wished I could speak their language to ask them if they needed any help. :P

yea i agree , some ppl do get offended sometimes depends on the situation . for some ppl its not polite to talk other than english. i love languages sometimes i cant understand why some people thinking that person that non-english speaking be considered swearing.
i love languages, do you know that if you get a friend from other countries you can learn their language directly from the native ? thats where i learn my english, hindi, russian, and mandarin
