I was just wondering do the kids still play outside. I know growing up we had no choice but to go play outside. Do any of your kids go play outside. Majority of the reasons kids are becoming obesed is because of the technology.

I had friends who's parents made us play outside, always. No matter the weather, if we were playing at their home we had to play outside. I always thought it was a bit mean of parents. My kids spend plenty of time outdoors, but with supervision & only when the weather is decent. It's not safe to just turn kids loose to play outdoors.

I wonder if we know each other because that sounds exactly like the situation I was brought up in!

yes, my girls still play outside. they are 11 and 15 and while they don't 'play' necessarily, they will still do stuff outside. my older daughter likes to blade and skateboard and my younger daughter likes to skip and play catch (with a baseball) with her dad. our summers are only about 4 months here (southern ontario, canada) and so we enjoy the outdoors while we can!

My friend's kids are still enjoying playing outside but the eldest who is like 8 yrs old started to change. She prefers to stay inside her room and do whatever she wants to do alone..technology indeed affects these attitudes.. But, I guess, its more safer to be staying inside the house rather than we have to attend to them if they are outside!

My kids always were outside..When my grandsons come over we are always outside doing something..playing games..walking to the park..climbing hills..anything and everything that we can find to do..Being outside is where kids should be...instead of playing video games...

I hardly ever see anyone kids playing outside anymore...and that is sad. When I was younger I hated to go into the house at night...in our neighborhood we played a game called "kick the can" and it got pretty much every kid in town involved. Kids are missing out on so much fun by not enjoying the world outside. Its rather sad

Yea it is just the technology that is keeping the kids away. I think the parents are not as strict either.

my kids still play outside. i remember a friend of mines kid used to be heavy and when you'd take him outside he'd kick a ball once then claim he was too tired and would sit down or want to go back inside. I didn't want my kids to be like that. They've got their father's skinny genetics but i still take them outside during the day. After dinner we go for a walk or a bike ride as a family.

Yes, my daughter still play outside. Well, she is a toddler so she is not into technology just yet. But my niece and nephews still play outside and they love playing outside. They are usually running around or riding their bicycle. My daughter likes to go outside and blow bubbles or play on the swing set.

Here in Italy I see less and less children playing outside. I have no children at home anymore but friends have young children and as soon as they get in from school they are in front if the television or their video games. On Sundays they are in the parks with parents but many times too often I hear parents say 'don't get that outfit dirty!'. When I was a child playing meant exploring which entailed getting in the mud whereas here they all seem to be engrossed in showing off their perfectly clean kids wearing the latest fashions - so sad.

I always had a choice when I was a kid,and so does my kid,she would live outside If I would let her,she would play in the rain, snow ans sleet if I would let her,its not the kids fault maybe more parents should make there kids go outside and play is great exercise for them.

My youngest son loves to be outside. He doesn't care if its sub 0 outside. In the summer he gets up and does his chores and outside he goes. He stays out until I make him come in.

My kids do...especially in the summer. But, they are only 7...my 14 yr old doesn't quite as much, though she does go for alot of walks. As far as electronic forms of entertainment...the twins don't play much on the computer, we don't own any video games- I sold them all several years ago, and they will have days of watching TV non-stop and days of watching hardly any at all. My 14 yr old has limited time on the computer, watches a couple shows on TV, and talks on the phone a bit. I don't think any of it is excessive (though my 14 yr old might be on the computer and phone LOTS more if I let her).

Yes. My husband bought a swing, a bicycle, a toy car, put up camping tents, made a sandbox and a basketball ring in the garden...and my daughter likes to play with it. But because it is too hot outside, I always tell her to go inside our house.

Amen to this, I totally agree. I have neices, nephews the only thing they do is play video games, watch movies, etc. When I was a kid I had chores when they were done we were outside and glad to be outside playing.

My kids play outside every chance they get even in the winter. I dont like them to be cooped up in the house. Fresh air is good for them as well as running around. To many kids dont play outside due to video games and such. I think its sad. My husband and I were just talking about this the other day. We as children were never in the house. We were always riding bikes, playing sports, camping...anything but in the house. My kids have alot of outside toys like trucks, a roller coaster, power wheels, bikes. Anything they need to play ooutside and be ocupied. Now that the weather is getting nicer we go for a walk everyday after school with the dogs. Its good for all of us. Technology has taken over the kids! It needs to stop. Parents need to set limits on how long children play video games and watch tv. They need to kick there buts outside!! In the summer my kids play outside from about 9 am till dark. Then they come in and can watch an hour of tv if there not to tired. Then its bed time. ~May The Kisses Of An Angel Cover And Protect You Always~ Copper

My son goes outside to play, but not as much as I did when I was a kid. He would rather stay inside and play on the computer, or watch television, or play his PS2. I did buy him a kite and he has some bubbles and sidewalk chalk that he wants to be able to go outside and play with. If it would ever stop raining I could get him to go outside.

I agree with your observation. I have to literally kick my kids out the door. Once they are outside they have a great time, shooting hoops, playing football, riding bikes etc. But they get stuck on their videos games and will sit on the couch all day if I don't take action. When I was young I was out right after breakfast, came home for lunch and was out again until dinner. In the summer we went out again after dinner and came home when it got dark. But we didn't have to worry about pedophiles or kidnapping or any of that other garbage. I kived in Chicago so it's not like I grew up in Mayberry. But my parents were not worried about letting us run around the neighborhood. It's a different world now.
