Everytime you attend an occasion...

Do you make it a point to buy a new set of clothes every time you are invited to attend certain occasions? Do you also shop for new accessories, shoes and other stuffs every time you are to attend certain occasions? I am the type of person who believes that it is important to live a practical life. Every time I shop, I make sure that I will not use whatever I bought just once. Instead, I buy things that could really last a long time and that I could use for quite some time. For instance, when buying clothes, I make sure that I buy clothes that I could mix and match. By doing so, I get to save a great deal of money and at the same time I wouldn't have to worry about looking as if I only have one set of clothes that I use every time there are occasions.

Just like you, I don't go out to buy new clothes for every occasion. There are times, though, when it would depend on the occasion. If I really don't have anything that would be fit for that particular event, I guess I would have to buy a new one. Yes, it's good to mix and match, so the clothes that I buy are usually the ones that would also match the ones I already have. I do buy accessories too, if there is a need to buy. But as much as possible, I prefer to use the stuff that I already have.

I frequently buy blouses, pants and skirts in basic colors like white and black. It's easier to mix and match these. I rarely buy accessories though. I make my own accessories.

Hello Dolce, I remember when I was still in my grade school and high school days, whenever there is an occasion, my mother would always managed to buy a new clothes, new accessories for us her children to wear. She get disturbed when we have an occasion to attend and we don't have new clothes or new sandals. And for my mother it is a big deal. Especially during commencement exercises, when we receive award or ribbons. I think it was also her way of rewarding us. I would also get disappointed not to have at least either a new clothes or a new pair sandals. But then, as I get older and as I learn to live on my own I have realize how difficult to find money and buying new clothes for every occasion is just impractical. When I reach college, I do the budgeting for myself, so I always try to save. Instead of buying new clothes I would do the same with what you do, mix and match my old clothes to arrive with a new combination.

I do agree with you. Same here. When I was younger, even until when I was in college, I always wanted to buy something new for an occasion or any activity. When I started working and did budgeting for myself, I became more conscious about my expenses and would not really splurge on new clothes or accessories for the heck of it.

No, I don't. Depending on the occasion, I might add some new accessories. I now purchase clothing that matches what I have in my closet so I am always able to coordinate clothing.

Hi dolce, I only would buy new clothes for occasion which is rather grand likes attending the wedding ceremony of my nephew end of last year. Most of the time, I just put on attire which is comfy and decent when attending occasion. During sale at ordinary time I would like to buy clothes which are my favorites and this could really save me much money and time.

I wait for a great coupon in the paper that allows me to use it on a discounted item or a coupon that the store sends to me. JCPenny's sent me a $10.00 coupon good on anything, so I have a new item for free. I'm on the mailing list for each store that I would consider shopping for any item. This means I can wear the one new item with something already in my closet and change the look, so people won't say doesn't she have anything else to wear. Each year near my birthday the companies send me a coupon. My birthday is during a holiday when many stores already have a huge sale, so I can take advantage of my great coupon from the store. The only way I can get a good deal is to be patient and be willing to consider more than one color. For example, if the dress is blue, then I might not be able to get blue shoes, so I might be wearing brown shoes.

Well, it is really important to save nowadays. You can try buying clothes with basic colors that you can easily mix and match and then you can just accessorize.

Yes i make it a point not to repeat my clothes on different occasions. I normally shop in bulk when it comes to my clothes, that way i dont have to rely on only one or two pairs but i have a wider range to select from. Also i do not buy lavishly , but something that i find good enough & long lasting and that can be worn for office too.Otherwise i rely on my cousins who generally help me with their accessories & other stuff when i really dont have anything with me ~pinks~

I also take into consideration clothes that I can wear to work. By doing so, I do not have to spend so much on different clothes.

I only do shop for new clothes for an occasion if I can't find anything accurate to the said occasion especially if it's a costume party. Most of the time I make ado with what I have. We need to be practical nowadays because money is so hard to earn. I tell that to my kids as well when they have parties they want to attend and they want to buy new clothes for it.

Basic commodities now are very expensive and people would rather spend their money on more important things. It is not really practical to spend on new clothes just because we have to attend certain occasions.

i seldom attend occasions because they usually do it on evenings. i work during the night so i dont have a lot of chance to attend. today my aunt will clebrate her 80th birthday and it is for lunch. yipee in this kind of occasion they can count me in for i c an attend. i dont buy new clothes for this occasion because the get together is only on my aunts house. so you can wear anything. last march is the 75th birthday of my other aunt and her party is different it was a "HOLLYWOOD STAR" kind of party. guess was requested to attend as their favorite hollywood star or character. i wasnt able to attend for it was a night gathering. i think most of the relatives that attended bought something new for the occasion. if i am going to attend i dont have to buy anything anymore for i have a lot of clothes that would fit for the occasion. i can just curl my hair and go there as beyonce lol. but in some certain occasions like wedding or grduation, i buy something new. hope i didnt bore you with my response it was kinda long lol. have a blessed day

I like you buy clothes that I can mix and match so even though some things of the outfit are the same I wear it with different tops or same tops with maybe a jacket and different pair of pants or a skirt. I do have like3 actual long formal dresses that I wear to weddings once in a while and I think I got pretty good use out of them by pairing them with different wraps and accessories.

If I have all the resources I love to. but, considering what I can afford in life. I dont! I also make it a point to buy clothes and shoes and accessories that can be used several times. But, I dont use it with same people...I just alternate it...lol! then I am the type of person who is very much willing to buys expensive as long as the design is very good rather than buying affordable but less attractive to me!

There are clothes that are really worth the money. I also invest in good clothes. It doesn't have to be a branded one but one that has good quality.

I am terrible for having to buy something new for every occasion I go on, luckily I do not go out very much! I am supposed to be going out next week and I am torn between buying something or just trying to make do with what I have in my wardrobe! I am not very good at buying clothes and so even though I seem to have enough nothing ever seems to go with anything else that I want to wear. I could do with some lessons in shopping really and how to have the perfect wardrobe with not much money!

I normally buy basic colors and designs because they are easier to mix and match with other clothes. For example, I do have several plain white blouses and plain black blouses. It's easier to look for a skirt or pants to pair them with.

I have one pant suit that i've been wearing for the past 10 yrs or so, if I change the blouse and jewelry, it looks different. I have the same idea as you dolce, change a few accessories. I dont feel ever necessary to impress people and have lots of other things to spend my valuable money on rather than a new outfit. Glad others are in my boat!

Yeah, there are people who go to the extent of buying new clothes everytime there is an occasion that they have to attend to just to show off or impress people. There are those who spend big time on something that they will only wear once.

I completely agree, I try to buy stuff which matches the other things in my wardrobe. I am a fan of black so I have lots of options because lots of things go with black. My sister in law has been trying to break me of this habit as it doesn't do my complexion any favours, so I am trying to branch out into brown. It is surprising but there are lots of things which go with brown, and you can always find tops in cream so there is always plenty of choice when you want to update an outfit. I do have a failing when it comes to shoes. I often buy a pair of shoes just because I like them, and then I find I have to find an outfit to go with the shoes. Probably the wrong way around, but that's me. I like to accessorize, but am not very good at working out what goes with what. I need to try a whole outfit on at the same time, just to make sure that the necklace will go with it, so sometimes I need to buy the necklace, try it on at home, and then take it back if it doesn't work.

That is what is good with black, you can pair it off with any color... Nice strategies!

I try to do as you do especially because I don't go many places where I need to dress up so it's really a waste to buy something new every time knowing I may never wear it again. I like to mix and match outfits also. I do that a lot with my summer shorts and tops. Annie

Yeah I am the same as you. I don't buy new clothes everytime there is a special occasion. I would mix and match my clothes so it would look like something new. There are times when I do buy new accessories like earrings or something but that's about it.

When I buy clothes I too make sure I can wear it with clothes I already have in my closet. But if there is a special event going on, I usually will go out and buy a blouse or some new accessories to wear to the event.

Hello there sweetie, I totally agree with you on this. I don't tend to buy on impulse every time there is a special occasion for me to attend. In fact, I go by the "theme" of the event that I'm supposed to turn up. Should there be no theme, then I'll just dress up smart-casual; which is the my image style, really. I prefer smart-casual anytime over a very classic gentleman's look. I guess casual rugged and formal do match well together over any event. Oh yes, and good hairstyling as well, LOL. Have a great one there. ;)

Yes if i have the money i will buy a new outfit for certain occasion. If i don't i will mix or match. I am not bothered about accessories i will just use what i have as i dont see the point of buying them if i am not going to wear them again.

Actually, it depends upon the occasion and my role in that occasion. If I'm a very important guest, then I will think of buying a new set of clothes, otherwise I will use my old clothes. Like you, I shop wisely for clothes. I choose the ones that are classic and versatile. I always buy separates so that I can to mix and match them with my other clothings. I also love to accesorize and give clothes a new look. I also take good care of my clothes making sure that it still looks good even if its been worn several times.
