How often do you change your avatar?

United States
April 6, 2008 3:07pm CST
I just changed my avatar for the first time since I've been on this site. I've been here for about 10 or 11 months. The other picture of myself was probably about 4 years old, perhaps a little less. I guess I just figured, I should post something a little more current. How often do you change your avatar? When you do, is it because you feel you are bored with the one you have been using or because you want to represent yourself differently?

This is only my third month here and as yet haven't changed mine at all. I probably will at some stage but haven't any recent photos and think a true avatar is more friendly, you can see who you are having a discussion with. Love your new updated one by the way. Ellie :D

Oh hello I did not recognise you for a minute! lovely photo. I have not changed mine since I figured out how to change it a few weeks ago. I keep meaning to look for something else but I have become quite attached to my little wolf so I may just hang on to it for a little longer yet and then try and see if I can find something I like more as I go along.

LOL. Well that certainly gives me some insight into your personality.

It is ok we are friends now! It was the rose that attracted me, it was the only thing I could find with a rose in it to go with my user name!! It is not very cuddly no, but seeing as I wanted my avatar to resemble me, I just see it as me when I get up in the morning! But the wolf is like me, and is friendlier as the day goes on!

I promise I only snarl in a morning when I first get up, once I have had a coffee I am a little puppy!!! Maybe I should think about changing my avatar sooner rather than later!

I am not changing mine. Mel Gibson will stay young for ever. I have been using it for four years. I had it on other forums before coming here.

Have you ever used other pictures of Mel Gibson or just this one?

I change my avatar really rarely. This is technically the third one I've had on this site since last January when I joined, and the first two were both very close to the same, only that one was animated and the other wasn't. My first two avatars were both Hanajima Saki from the anime Fruits Basket. I relate to her character a lot, and she has certain traits I really admire. I still use a picture of her as an avatar on Livejournal and a few other sites. I chose to stop using her for my avatar here largely because I've recently been obsessed with the anime Naruto, and specially the character Umino Iruka, who is featured in my avatar here. He is also chosen for character traits I admire and relate to. I originally expected to only use this avatar for a while and then switch back to Hanajima, but I can't seem to make myself do it. Before I joined mylot, I used a character named Fam from Ruin Explorers on multiple sites for years. I finally sort of outgrew her, I think. I always use anime characters instead of real pictures of me, because part of what I like about the internet is that I get to know people intellectually more so than what they physically look like, so while I have a picture of myself on my profile, I want people to have to go look for it instead of it being the first thing they see when talking to me.

You make a good point. But now I curiousity gets the better of me and I'll have to go and look for your picture. You would get along famously with my son, he is a Naruto fanatic. His favorite character is Gara? and thats just about all he talks about. In fact he got into my makeup yesterday to paint his face like one of the characters and wants me to spend $125 on a costume. Not likely. LOL.

*grins* Yup, I have a picture up, though not a really good one of just me... it's got me and hubby and Dusty all mugging for the camera. Heh, I'm sure we would get along well! It's funny because when I was first watching Naruto, not many people in the US had heard of it yet (it wasn't on Cartoon Network yet then) but now it's so popular! Of course I'm happy it's popular, because now I have people to talk to about it, plus there are more toys and such around to buy! Ooo sounds like fun! Cosplay! I can understand not being willing to shell out for a costume for him though!

I like your new icon! The old was good too. I much prefer a reasonable representation of the person than all the other junk that so many hide behind online. The ones that I think are the worst are the folks that wouldn't dare post their own face but will plaster their kids all over the internet... I changed my myLot icon to a new pic a couple weeks ago in honor of my one year myLot anniversary. I think changing icons too often defeats part of their purpose. I choose my icons carefully and want to be recognized through it. It's your brand logo.

I used my daughters picture only once. I came across a baby picture and thought it was so cute that I had to use it, but what happened was that a pervert came across it and said some really off the wall things about her. I immediately took it down and never once thought about using my child's picture again. I like using my own picture, as they say a picture is worth a thousand words. Not to say I am a fan of my own pictures, thats why they don't get changed very often. I don't like having them taken and I approve of very little that I would actually post.

I noticed that you are from Lake Tahoe. I lived in Santa Rosa for over 20 years and just moved to Phoenix about a year ago. Are you familiar with Santa Rosa? I sure miss it there and envy you being in Tahoe.

That is very understandable. If any prevert says something about Hanna my neice I will take her off also.

Thats nice that you use your neice as an avatar. I used my daughter until some pervert said something about her, then I immediately took her off.

I was changing mine on a regular basis until August of the past year and I really like this avator. The reason I had changed it in August 2007 was because that was my husband and my 35th wedding anniversary and it really pleases me to look at it as I am here at mylot. So I do think that this will be my avator from now on. I love the look of my husband and I together.

I can't believe how brilliant you all are! I tried, my son, whom I thought was a computer genius tried, and there is no way we could even get me an avatar...so maybe they don't let West Coast Islanders post anything! LOL! I don't want to show you me.....just my beautiful gardens, and pets! Love all, rainbows to you!

I've been on here for over a year and I've never changed my avatar. I think it's because I love stars so much...and Pleiades hosts a number of bright hot stars, even though I would never be able to find it in the night sky.

I have changed mine twice. Originally it was the cartoon fish. Then my present one. Briefly my daughter, and now back to the baby in the flower pot. But I have said this before about your photo/avatar. WOW.

Avatars - A image bye the same artist, Josephine Wall.
You know Katherine, I do not know if I will ever change my Avatar hear. I like the image I picked, it suits me I think. I am a huge fan of the artist. Plus if people want they can see the real me on my profile page. I have the 2 picks you have seen from other sites. But this Avatar for now anyway really represents how I feel when on Mylot. Oh and I have seen this pic of you before as well. I like both of your pics. for your Avatars.

I've used my current avatar for the past 9 months. It was taken a day or 2 before I uploaded it on here and started using it. Before using this one I changed my avatar often. I had maybe 8 or 9 different ones in 5 months time, most of them being scenic or pet pictures. So using the same one for 9 months is a record for me. LOL I'll eventually change this one, but for now I am happy with it. PS Your new avatar looks great!

Hi kbourgerie! I hardly change my avatar. I've been here for almost a year (and was inactive for more than 3months0 and I've only changed my avatar once. I'd like to change it since I've been active again but I'm having second thoughts cos the myLotters might not recognize me. LOL. I don't know, or maybe I just gotten used to my avatar right now which is taken almost 3 years ago. Hehe!

What they ought to have is a notification in the activity sortie that a person has changed their profile picture.
