Are you an insomniac? Or have bad sleeping patterns?

I wouldn't generally class myself as an insomniac but there are times when I just can't get to sleep, no matter what I do, sleep evades me. At other times I am off to sleep like a shot but come 2.30am I am in the wide awake club and can't get back to sleep. I don't like to toss and turn too much otherwise it will wake my partner up so I get up. I used to read for a couple of hours hoping to exhaust myself enough to go back to bed but now that I use myLot I creep off to the computer and log on for a couple of hours (which is what I did this morning). What do you do to get off to sleep?

You sound exactly like me when I was on my off day. That's because I couldn't find myself to get sleep at all due to my 24 hour shift work and I've been up like on irregular hours working that whenever I get the time to sleep at night at home during my off day, I just couldn't, ha!

Oh my waitressing!! I respect them you know why? Because they can stand on their own two feet for hours and moving around, taking orders and sending food. I'm glad that you are way past that now.

I know what you mean, doing shift work is horrendous it puts your body clock way off kilter and you just never seem to get it right. I used to work as a waitress doing the night shift (6pm-6am) and it was exhausting. At first I couldn't get to sleep because the noise during the day would keep me awake but I got used to it after a couple of days. I got into the habit of sleeping for about 4-5 hrs then going to the beach and tried to catnap befoe going back home to get ready for work. Oh well, thank goodness I don't have to do that any more! Thanks for replying Zed!

Hmmmmmm... I suffer those troubles when the Moon is full, my friend. I truly think that the Moon affects women quite a lot. It would be interesting to know what the moon phase is when you have these problems. Of course, there are other times I can't sleep, like when I've got too much on my mind, or when I've changed my sleeping pattern for whatever reason, but I have noticed that it's often Full Moon when I have difficulties. I keep a jar of lavender buds beside my pillow and whenever I can't sleep, I just unscrew the lid and I soon drift off. Brightest Blessings, my dear friend. xx

We sure have a few things in common, my friend, and I swear by lavender for a lot of things. xx

Hi there Darkwing. Yes, I think the moon is a little responsible at times too - other than the obvious worries that we all have. This latest episode has just happened (Full Moon was 2 days ago!) - my body seems to be on this cycle too, if you get my drift! Funnily enough we have lavender drops (essential oils) that we use on our pillows. Great minds thinka like! Thank you for replying my friend.

I generally get two hours of sleep at night then take about a 30 minute nap in the afternoon. I have extreme insomnia but instead of letting it get the best of me I use it to my advantage and do laundry, clean, hit the computer or read.

Thanks for responding. Dear me that is not a lot of sleep but some people can get by with that small amount. My BF being one of them but he can be a bit grouchy at times. They say having a cat nap during the day helps you get over your tiredness, so that is a good thing that you are getting a 30min nap in the afternoons. Hitting the computer and reading is definitely the sort of thing I like to do, laundry - nah, so good on you. I hope you don't mind if I ask you to be my friend. Thanks and keep posting.

Yes i am insomniac, i dont get proper sleep and in a day i dont know how many hours i sleep and when. Mostly i sleep for 4 hours at a stretch , wake up do some work and again get back to bed. Most of the time when ever i wake up it would be televison or computer and nothing else. In the mean time i will eat some thing to make myself dizzy.

Thanks for replying. It is hard when you can't get into a sleeping pattern. What we do without technology and the internet!

I know sometimes you just wish you could stop your mind from jumping from one subject to another and just RELAX. But it doesn't! I sometimes had to take ProPlus as I used to get so exhuasted during the day from lack of sleep. It gets so bad sometimes that you are too exhausted to sleep. Shame. I hope you can catch up with your sleep.. Thanks for replying Breath.

I don't think of myself as an insomniac, but I will say I don't get a lot of sleep. I think it is because I sleep on a sofa sleeper and I have the pain in my back, so the combo of the too make me uncomfortable. I get about 5 hours of sleep, sometimes I am good and get 8, but that is rare.

Thanks for responding icy. I hope you are not getting a pain in your back because you sleep on a sofa sleeper! I have tried that and it just isn't the same as sleeping on a 'proper' bed with a good mattress (that is the most important part!). Five hrs sleepp is good for me too, 8 is a dream that I hardly experience! Keep posting

I am sometimes. It's especially after I had consumed a couple cups of coffee in the late afternoon. I could stay awake until dawn. Sometimes, if I go to bed late a day before or play game over the night, I will suffer insomnia on the following night because my bio-clock is screwed up. Ok, what I will do is do some reading, continue to play game or take a bath. After half an hour or an hour, I will try to go to bed again.

You are most welcome. Too bad, I am having it again now. That's why I am still awake and keep responding to Mylot discussion even it's now 2:19 am here and I need to go to work 8am later.

Thanks for responding. It is hard when you can't sleep isn't it! Very frustrating and I hate lying awake in bed doing nothing but worry, so I must admit I'd rather get up and 'do' something.

I never get enough sleep anymore because I work alot of hours every day. I have a hard time going to sleep sometimes also. I usually just get back up and start working online again wehen that happens. I am so focussed on helping us financially and it makes me restless. I was up for more than 24 hours yesterday because I also went out and worked in my yard a little bit.

Hi there stephcjh, thanks for replying. Oh dear please don't work too hard. 24 hrs is a long time to be up without any rest. As the nursery rhyme goes 'it makes Jack a dull boy' - now we can't have you feeling down so please take some time out to relax, earnings are important, I know but keeping you in good health is far more important. Hugs

I used to have a lot of trouble sleeping. I am still a very light sleeper but don't have the insomnia that I used to. I think a big thing that helps me is that I exercise everyday for at least an hour. Between that, cleaning my house and running after a toddler, I fall into bed exhausted at night. Now I fall asleep within twenty minutes of getting into bed where it used to take me almost an hour.

Oh lucky you. I have a cold at the moment which doesn't let me sleep. And we have started going to the gym every morning, this is definitely helping us both sleep a little bit better. But as you say it takes me a good hour to actually get off to sleep and any noise (including the rain) generally wakes us up. It is hard when both of us are light sleepers. I should imagine that your child will exhaust you especially if it is a toddler! They are abound with energy :)

I could not sleep last night for anything! I kept waking up every 10 minutes. I have got up and taken a bath in the middle of the night before to try to relax to get to sleep. I have never taken any kind of sleeping pills and never plan on it either I don't want to get addicted to them.
