Would you buy your 12 year old daughter a cell phone?

I would give my 12 year old a prepaid one with the intentions of them using it for emergencies. As they get older and get a source of income, they can take over the monthly fee. I get a real kick out of some of tbese kids walking around chatting on their cell phone unconscious of that is going on around them. They will be in with a small group of friends and chatting on their phones! I am an adult and don't see the need for a cell phone that much! Do you think young people lack the social skills adults have becuase of the internet and cell phones?

i myself am a 16 year old student studyin at high skool!! i think u shouldn't buy ur daughter a cell phone at this age coz it affects the child's mental n physical growth in many ways!! mentally she gets more involved into friens n her mind diverts frm her studies n physically since she gets more occupied wid the phone her putdoor activiies come to a halt.this is the growin age of ne child n if uobstruct this growth the child n u , both will be the loser!!

No I wouldn't. They have no need for one. When they are at school they can call from the office and if I need to get in touch with them I can go through the office. My niece is 13 and she doesn't have one (I help raise her). She walks home from the bus stop, it's not that far and if she saw an accident she could go to a neighbors if not come home to call 911. If she's out with friends at the mall there are pay phones she can use. Why does she really need one?

I know many people think that 12 is too young but since many of the schools are not safe anymore and the streets are dangerous I would say yes. I probably would restrict the phone to just allow calls to be made to 911 and family members numbers that would be stored in the phone book memory of the cell that way it can't be abused.

I see a lot of kids nowadays with cell phones and most of them are younger than 12 years old. I think that's it's okay to buy these children cell phones as long as they are responsible and they are not using the cell phone every minute. A cellphone is a good device that these children can use for safety but as long as these children are responsible and are not addicted to it or anything like that then i don't see any problem with them having a cellphone.

I think it's ok because if they are lost or they need help they have a phone to use. They can call you or you them and know exactly where they are. I hear some even come with trackers so you know where to find your child at all times. It's a safety precaution and it shows your kids to be more independent.

Yes, I am going to be buying my son who will turn 12 in July a cell phone the reason safety. He walks home from school or rides his bike, what if he sees a car accident on the way home he can call 911, what if someone is following him, he can call me or 911, what if he is going to be late getting home as he had to stay after shcool, he can call me, what if he fell off his bike and got hurt, he can call me or 911 there are alot of reasons for a 12 year old to have a cell phone but they must be a responsible 12 year old.
