Natural cleaning

Does anyone out there not use anything like bleach or any sort of disinfectant? My husband wants to start, but we have kids and we need to disinfect. Especially now that they like to hang around in the bathroom with us. Is there something natural that disinfects? All the green cleaners do not indicate disinfecting. Even the Clorox green line. I've been pretty good about using non toxic things, but I do sneak in bleach here and there.

You can go too far with disinfecting. You kill off the good stuff along with the bad, and inhale/ingest nasty stuff from the cleaners. I haven't had bleach in my home in years. I clean mainly with vinegar and baking soda, with an occasional non-toxic (Melaleuca or similar) cleaner if the job really needs it. Your kids will be fine. The toxins in the cleaners you're using will hurt them before a little dirt will.

I meant to add that I'm rarely sick. I can't even remember the last time I was. Even with nasty bugs and viruses going around, I don't get them.

I know and I try to keep that in perspective. I rarely use anything like that and my husband keeps saying there are natural things that disinfect like tea tree oil. That seems to be an expensive disinfectant!

He's right. And you need only a small amount of it to do the job.

Vinegar is a natural disinfectant and can be used to clean everything from mirrors to floors and everything in between. Lemon juice has the same properties, but it's more expensive in most areas.

I use tea tree. I just mix a few drops in a spray bottle of water. Works great and kills, bacteria, yeast and the fungus. www.caring-your-healthy.com
