Have you noticed this "Ranked 14 out 1500 in Computers and internet"?

Well i am back to mylot after almost a year and i was soo glad to see my rating at 10 as well as some thing cought my mind as soon as i started responding to one of the discussions. Its nice to be ranked at the top among a bunch of ppl who are discussing under one topic or may be one specific interest. But since i was away for a long time and as soon as i came back i was soo happy to see that my rating and ranking are the same even then.
Well have you noticed what exactly is this and can some one explain me what this ranking is all about and how it is calculated. If am clear about that i will try my level best to stay on top of the list in my specific interested topics. As my screen name suggests i am crak head i love craking things too. Anyways would be thankfull to you ppl if you can eloborate me on this aspect.

The rating system has puzzled me for a while.
I have seen members with only a few posts that have high ratings in some categories, and also members who submit rather poor quality posts having decent ratings. Logic distates that the system must involve either quality or quantity as a criterion, but observation seems to belie this.
I would love to know how they create and administer the system.
