the microphone. i have a compac presario pc SR-1930NX, and the sound system is Realtek, I have Windows Xp. I tried a test record on Audacity and the wavy lines did not come on. I turned on the speakers, pressed the red button, tried singing again, and I could hardly hear. It was as if the Windows ordinary sound was there, but the Realtek did not pick it up. I do not want to format my computer and do a recovery. So what do I do?

Did you turn the volume up b4 recording? I have soundblaster on my computer which is controlled from windows. I also have seperate volume control for my speakers that my daughter likes to turn down on me which leaves me figuring out which is turned down or off.

I turned up the volume on my headset, on my player, and also on my speakers. So that is not that.

I can definitely feel your frustration here. I don't have a microphone on my computer. I do have Windows XP too. I'm not really sure what to do since I do not have a microphone on mine to help you figure it out. I know a member here should be able to help you. Good luck.

I think it is that the Compac Presario decided it was illegal for people to record music from the internet. Yet it is also rude of me to turn on the speaker and get the recording that way when someone else is in the room and not only that, I get the sound from outside, the tv in the living room, and if my husband or I sneeze. I guess I had better keep saving for a new computer. And it will not be a Compac Presario either.

I just have recovery cds so once I install them, it will delete my My document folder that includes my novel and financial information. I do have the software for Realtek supposedly installed but it does not work. And I went on Realtek and there is software drivers already for it but it is in a zip file and includes also the ones for the duo core computer and I just have a Pentium 4 Compac Presario.

I really should have waited and bought a better computer, but my old one gave up the ghost and I could not afford a better one. In fact, I could not even afford this one. It took me a year to pay for it all. If my old computer had lasted until January or February of the next year, then the new ones would have come in with the Duo Core Processing. Anyway I am saving for a Mac.
