Happy birthday to me! A day spent alone, though.

I'm 54! Gad, I never believed I'd make it this far! My philosophy when I was young was to live fast, die young and be a great looking corpse. I certainly have a lot of wonderful memories. Wish my kids would remember my birthday, though, but their dad never did so I doubt they will. Not that they don't love me, they just never had the example put before them. My two dogs and I are enjoying a chilly spring day. The leaves are sprouting on the trees and I have 3 flowering pear trees that will blossom probably this week. I'm making myself a nice roast--rare meal for me, I'm usually a cheapskate!--and breaking into the ice cream for dessert. How do you spend your birthday when you're alone? I had a lot of them when I was young and single and this is the first one alone for me in twenty years. It's not so bad.

Happy birthday to you!!! I don't know why your son didn't say with your grandchild about your birthday. But I think maybe they want to organize your birthday in secret.

Thank you! They're all so far away, clear across the country. No grandchild--I'd love one, but my boys are only 19 and 20 and I want them to wait a few years! I've had a very nice birthday, you are all so nice!

May you have a great birthday. I've been celebrating my birthday alone for 8 years now (that's a lot considering I'm still 20) but I guess it's the thought that counts. I hope you have more wonderful birthdays to come!

Thank you! Yes, it's our attitude that counts and I'll admit some years mine stunk but that was because of my own expectations. Now I have none, so I'm pretty happy! Are you okay with celebrating your birthday alone or is it a bad day for you? It's unusual for a child and young adult to be alone on their birthday.

Sometimes, it's sad. I mean it's different when people who aren't really family greet you only because they saw your birthday on some form and because they would probably forget the next day. But then, I am studying away from home and it's my choice. Although I sometimes feel bitter about it, in the end, it's about sacrificing things for the sake of my reaching my dreams. Besides, spending time alone and reflecting on life, the past X years, can be very calming. Hope to reach you age someday!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU! Mine is the 17th and sorry your boys are so far away, I know what you mean, I think people are incentitive to other peoples feeling any more. I don't know what mine will do for my birthday if anything I have a son I know will be right here, but funny thing I have been married to a man for 15 years in June and not one time in those 15 years have AI once received a call or a card or a present from any of his family. They dont' remember, but it the same day as their brother's. It has at 61 become another day. I try to have a party for my daughter or my son or my friends to let them know I remembered and that I love them and think of them. I send ecards on the computer. Do what makes you feel good for the day, buy you something special. Have a great day.

My husband after nearly 15 years finally knows when my birthday is, but he doesn't do anything to celebrate it. He doesn't like to go out to eat, he dont' buy presents, says I got the money so get what I want, but it isn't the same. He said when you get to be 60 the party is over, it should be jsut another day, I posted on MYspace that my birthday is coming up and I have many friends on there. Waiting to see how many remember the 17th, sometimes it hurts when they just let it go by without a word. I too enjoy being alone sometimes to do what I want. My hubby goes home to La every summer for a few months and I am left here alone you get used to eating when you want and going to bed when you want and getting up and watching tv what you want. It hard when he comes home to remember he is here now and things change.

I will think of you on Thursday! That's too bad, really. When I was growing up birthdays were a big deal. We were poor, but mom always baked a cake and the family celebrated. My brothers and sister did special things for me and my grandparents did, too. I was married for 19 years and my husband could never remember my bday, our anniversary, the kids' birthdays or his own parents'! But his family always remembered my bday and they still do, they're so wonderful. So my bday yesterday wasn't out of the ordinary, I've gotten used to being by myself (I actually like it!) and I at least a few people remembered. And my friends here at MyLot make my day special, as did friends on the guitar forum I've been on for years. It was a good birthday! Thank you for the HBD wish!!

Happy Birthday! - Birthday cake clipart
Aww...Happy Birthday dragon! I am glad you seem to be making the best of it and looking on the bright side even though you are alone for your birthday. I spent a crappy birthday once, when I was with my grandparents. I went out and bought myself a nice pint of ice cream and just pigged out on the whole container lol. I got e-cards from a few of my online friends so that was nice and a few of my real life friends also sent me e-cards (as I wasn't in the country at the time) So it wasn't all bad I guess. Happy Birthday again!

Oh goody, a cake!! LOL! Thank you, Roxanne! Days are only as good or bad as we are willing for them to be and it sounds like you made the best of it! Isn't it so nice to have online friends? They really enrich our everyday lives! Thank you for the good wishes, you people here have helped make this a beautiful day!

Hehe, glad you liked. I saw alot with pink and I thought, no no no, he's not a girl plus everyone loves chocolate! Okay, the majority of people do. I agree, online friends do make it better at times! Doesn't make you feel so alone after all. Have a good one today

It has been a few years, but I spend any day that I am alone enjoying the life the Lord has given me and the person that it has made of me. Thanksgiving, the act not the holiday, is a must for everyday. And for me it is usually easier when I am alone. HAPPY BIRTHDAY! And I am glad that neith one of us made those good-looking corpses! The only things we take with us when we die is our responsibility for our actions and our memories. Try to make both the best they can be.

You are so right! I wake up every day and no matter what the weather or any troubles I have, I thank God for the new day and new opportunities. I recently started attending church again and now I have something to look forward to every week. I can honestly say that I've been truly blessed and watched over in this life.

My boys are in Arizona, I'm in Ohio! Believe me, if they were close I'd have a big birthday dinner! Good suggestion, though! Thanks for the well wishes!!

Happy birthday to you! May you have many more birthdays to come! Why don't you call some of your friends over to celebrate this day with you? If I were alone, I'd probably do that. Maybe your kids will call you or give you a surprise visit, you'll never know! When I was a kid, my parents used to tell me about that silly superstitious belief that the person celebrating their birthday shouldn't go out of the house or they might get into an accident. I would go out and have some fun, but of course I'd take good care of myself, anytime, even if it weren't my birthday!

What a funny superstition that is! I plan to go out to the grocery in a few hours, I'll be extra careful! I'll probably call the kids this evening adn tell them to wish me happy birthday. They'll be contrite, of course, but they should be--one of their Christmas presents to each of them was a calendar with all of their families birthdays marked down, including their dad's (we're divorced). I guess they never hung them up!

An early Happy Birthday to you!! I would post something on Tuesday but it would probably be impossible for you to find in all these millions of posts! Birthdays alone aren't so bad. Sounds like you'll be busy! Treat yourself to a nice dinner and some ice cream! My son just called me from AZ-he had his email set up to remind him of my birthday, isn't that sweet? I'm having a great bday thanks to my online friends and my family--everyone far away but here in spirit!

imho, that is great, to be in solitude at times. and oh you're not alone! you always have yourself :D Happy Birthday. You know, you can always make your days as if it were always your birthday and not just a particular date. whether we think being alone in our birthdays is happy or not is just all in our minds :D

You are right. I decided long along that whoever else is around me, I'm always there and I'd better learn to enjoy my own company. I guess we naturally want to be with loved ones or have people make us feel special on certain days. Silly, isn't it? But I had a good birthday, in large part thanks to my online friends here and on a couple of guitar forums. Thank you!

Happy birthday ! I probably will be having the same kind of birthday "celebration" when I hit that age but if that happens, I probably will spend the day by first, going to church to thank God for another year and then I will do something special for myself like buy some nice clothes, I'd probably go on a shopping spree yehey!

Don't think I wasn't tempted! But with the economy the way it is and airlines going bankrupt and all that awful stuff, I decided to save my money! I did go out and buy myself a piece of birthday cake!

I know i'm late dear but better late than never!right? I would still want to greet you a VERY HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU, many more happy days and struggles for you to be strong and make your life worth living!!!... i admire you for that, i'm sure we all had to accept that there would be times in our lives that we would be alone here but remember that God is walking with us in this so called life... We always have reasons to smile because truth is life is wonderful, we just have to make the best out of it... I'm sure your you'll have a wonderful life ahead. Take care always...kisses to you and your dogs.

Thank you so much! My birthday has extended beyond the actual date with all the well-wishes I've received and I'm glad I posted because I don't feel as if I'm all by myself anymore. Of course, I knew I wasn't alone. I'm very spiritual and I know God is always with me and loves me as I love my own children. Thank you for greeting me as I woke up with such warm and wonderful encouragement!
