Why do women hate having hair on their legs? Do men really feel the same?

I like the hair on my legs and dont think I'll ever shave them. I just love seeing them especially in ultra sheer thin stocking and I love playing with them. I remember shaving once as a teen. I was following big sis but I hated the results. I was told that men hate to feel and see a woman's hairy legs. I am yet yo hear a man say that to me. I guess its not a big issue here as men usually complement me about them and say "I love that. Never shave your legs." Many men I know are quite attracted to hair on a womans legs. Well different stroke for different folks. What is your experience? Do you hate having or seeing hairy legs? Do you hear much negative comments about it?

I don't see the big deal as well...but my bf likes clean the body hairless except for the haid and eyebrows. I think they are used to stereotype. like girls should be hairless and men should because it looks more manly. I leave my hair like that during winter since I don't need to wear any skirts and shorts but i do when the weather gets warmer. I don't like shaving because the hair grows up faster and more comes then before. I would go with waxing. It lasts longer and if you keep on waxing, the hair will stop deffinitely. And waxing is soo painful...guys should understand us a bit more and give us a break lol

(lol) I would only shave or wax if my hair was of a certain texture and greww badly. It must be stressing to have to do it routinely. (lol)

I don't like to shave my legs all the time either. I usually don't during the winter. I will occasionally, my husband don't like the hairy legs..lol. Whenever he says something, I say something about his face. He only shaves once a week on Sunday. The rest of the week, he gets wooly looking, that usually gets him quiet, he says he don't like shaving either. During the summer tho, I have to shave about everyday, because I wear shorts alot, and it don't take long for it to grow, and you get all prickly...

This discussion really make me smile. I'm a man, and I don't think shaving my legs is something that I would do my entire life. I too would hate to see women who would not shave their legs. And that, I don't know why. Probably, it's just how things go. Basic hygiene of our times think it so. So we follow suit. And I think this is how things are supposed to be proper for us, at least given our culture and context. Who knows in the near future the trend would be for men to shave their legs and for women to grow theirs with hair. lol

Male swimmers in the Olympics shave. I did hear about one Olympic swimmer who refused to shave his legs or arms. That made me laugh. I wonder if the swimmers compare smoothness in legs with their girlfriends. I hope hers look better!

Shavinng the legs as far as I know is not done for hygienic purposes just style. As you said who to tell what the style of the day will be some time now. (lol) Dont you think its just unfair for women to go through so much just to live up to some societal standard. As you said you wouldnt do it everyday and I am yet to hear a woman say she enjoys shaving or waxing. (lol)

I was one of those kids that had dark hairy legs. You could see the hair on my legs clear across the room, . I got tired of hearing other girls say things about my legs, so I shaved. I don't shave all the time now that I'm married. I don't see the point in shaving during the winter months, because honestly it helps keep my legs warm. My oldest daughter is lucky. She's 11 going on 12 and I can't tell if she has leg hair, which is a good thing. So if her legs stays that way, she shouldn't have to shave for a long time. I already told her, once you shave your leg hair doesn't look the same again. Now my youngest, which is only 6, she might have to shave once she's old enough. Poor thing, already has dark hairy legs.

My mom shaves during the winter months because she told me my dad once complained when her leg bumped his under the covers because it was 'prickly.' LOL, but he is right. Once you start, if you don't keep on doing it, your leg will feel like a cactus!

The first source of information on female anatomy for us was through the movies. Right from childhood we are watching girls singing and dancing wearing different dresses but never ever there was some hair visible on the legs. So we are habituated for that. Only demons, whether male or femaale, were shown to have a lot of hair all over their body including on legs...

Ah ah. Quite true. But who wants to live their lives according to a movie. Movies and fashion houses indirectly claim that fat poeple do not exist or that they are less than the model type woman as well as that fat women cant be or dress sexy. I know fat women whose sense of style defies that to the T. I dont think I have to mention the image of the perfect man that the movies portray and have us ladies falling in love with but can hardly find in real life, now do I. Ah ah ah. Your answer does reflect my true beliefs though. The shaving of legs are just based on some fashion fallacy which popped up somewhere and has taken root in our lives like the air we breath. Hairy legs only detract from ones beauty if it is excessively hairy and the hairs grow long. I dont think all women have to shave. Do you love to shave everyday P_vadla?

Well for me personally i think that is discusting. But it all depends on how we are raised. I have never been with a guy who liked hair on legs, the second i got prickly they complained hahaha but like you said different strokes for different folks! If i were with a man who liked it i would have to think he is a lil gay if he likes that!

Now the gay view is all new to me. Most men in my country is homophobic towards gays so all the more why that would not even cross my mind. I never even thought of that. Interesting. Your hairs may be prickly because you're used to shaving them so of course they will be prickly when they start to grow back. Mine are not. (lol) They were prickly and course that first time I tried to follow my sister. they were a big bother then and I truly wondered if they would grow back nicely. I was told that once you start shaving you have to continue because the texture of the hairs change and wouldnt be as soft as they were before. (lol)

I don't hate having hair on my legs and only shave when I have too or when I see the hair is getting too long. As far as whether or not men hate it. My husband never complains when I don't shave, but he doesn't compliment the hairs either. Different peope like different things. Now I wouldn't just let the hairs grow out, because I don't like the way it looks. But that's just me.

I hate having hair on my legs. I have dark hair and fair skin, and even though my hair is now blonde, I still remove the hair. I do not shave them because my hair grows so fast, but I use NADS and before that Alexandria. If a woman is dark skinned and her hair almost the same color as her body, or she is blond, and you cannot notice the hair, but for most of us women, the hair is very noticeable. So I guess you being dark skinned your hair is not as long and stands out like mine would. But if you were fairer skinned, those men would not have complemented you that much.

I wish I had not done in it the first place then I would not have to do it every so often. My husband isn't fussed about it but when I use to play sports when I was a teenager, ALL the girls did it and if yours were slightly hairy they would tease you LOL yeah I know it shouldn't of bothered me but it did. I think facial hair is slightly unattractive as I have seen many women with a beard. But hey like you said different strokes for different folks :)

If a woman has hairy legs, and especially they are dark color. It will be very annoying. If she wears a nice dress without shaving, it will be an eyesore. Everything seems to be perfect except for the hairy legs.

I hate it so I won't get my legs to be shaved even once. I don't want it growing. Once you shave it, according to my mom, it will continually grow longer and harder. I haven't tried once. I have hairs but its fine and not so obvious because i don't shave them.

Yes this is what my mother said as well. I didn't listen to her at first but now I know she is right. My mother though is fairly religious in her shaving especially if she is going 'out' Stick with the no shaving thing. If you wax they do grow back but generally thinner and it takes longer than if you shave. I am rather lucky in that my hair is also fairly fine and light especially compared to some. However I have always like the idea of getting curls in my leg hairs but this is yet to happen no matter how long I leave it to grow!

I am with you on this one. I have never been a big fan of shaving, I just don't understand why women feel the need to dehair themselves. Another thing I don't get is why is it that men who are much hairer than women are rarely pressured to remove their hair? I had a boyfriend once who hated my hairy legs. He asked me one day why I wouldn't shave. I told him that I was saving up to get them waxed. I was still a student and he was working. He thought that I must have been saving up the money so he offered to pay it for me. I told him thanks anyway but I have the money I was now saving up the hairs! The day after we broke up I went and booked an appointment to get my legs waxed! It still makes me laugh!!! My family regularly ask when I will shave or wax, my husband though never mentions it. The weirdest thing though is that on the rare occasions when I do dehair myself no one ever notices or says anything! Go figure

I wonder why women allow themselves to be pressured into shaping themselves to look like the ideal woman as is portrayed by society. I do not see the men trying so hard to become the ideal man as is portrayed by the same medium Good one on that boyfriend. I dont mind compromising in a relationship but I wont ever change who I am into who he wants me to be by carving out a piece of me here or there or getting a tuck her and doing a lift there. No way. Ever asked hubby to allow you to wax him? Id love to hear that reaction. Most men I know would just stare at me in a certain are you crazy sorta way without even answering. So why should a woman do it so often and men are the hairier of the two. I echo your sentiments on that. (lol)

I shave my legs (lower legs mostly as my hair is extremely sparse, fine and practically invisible up top,) my underarms, and I shape my *feminine* area. I've gone without shaving my legs for quite a few months when I was younger, but I can't leave my underams and feminine area go wild. My husband loves smooth legs, and how I shave everyone else, so I won't ever let my leg hair grow out again. If I found a guy who didn't mind unshaven leg hair, I'd be tempted to let it grow --- BUT I wouldn't go out in shorts or a skirt!

Lol. Now that is eactly why I dont ever want to start shaving because I dont want to be pressured into a routine of doing it so often. That one time I shaved and the hairs started growing back I fretted so much that I had done it and now I was stuck with shaving. They were very prickly and did not look attractive at all. I nutured them back to how I was used to them and wanted them. I definately dont want to go through that so often. Its a good thing that you do not mind doing it so its easier for you. (lol)

I feel uncomfortable if I am in public and know I haven't shaved/waxed my legs in awhile. People sometimes women more then men are often more judgemental about woman growing their leg hairs or arm pit hairs They view it as being lazy or bad hygiene instead of choice. I don't shave/wax in the cooler months and just let it grow I find they are softer when you let them grow. My husband does complain until they get long enough to stop being so prickly. In school I shaved all the time even in winter months especially once I reached High school nothing worse then a boy trying to cop a feel and get nothing but a hairy leg. Back then boys made fun of girls with hairy legs called them big foot, abdominal snowman, Hairy Harry, hairy catus and all kinds of insulting name which to their own joy they all spread the gossip about it. Not really caring for the girls feelings at all so if you didn't want lumped in with them you had to shave your legs. I was pretty hairy my mom said I was always hairy from the time I was a little girl. But after I got married I didn't shave as much until unless like I was going to town and it was to hot for pants but just being at home which I don't go anywhere alot so I shave only like once a month if I have to. I have tried waxing it hurts like you wouldn't ever be able to imagine unless you have done it yourself, I don't know how them women on television keep a straight face in the commericals about the wax..Ugh! I have tried using a electric razor since I don't shave much I always nick myself when using a razor blade but hair was always starting to grow back by the end of the day you felt prickly catus stubble. I have found out the less I bother with them the less hair I do have and the lighter and thinner it is. I dare my hubby sometimes to say a word.. he doesn't shave everyday either and as the saying goes what good for the goose is good for the gander..So power to hairy legs..Hugs!

Well after seeing what I went through with the hair removal creams and waxes he said so way in he-ll would he ever do that. He said he didn't know woman tortured themselves with the wax. I got the facial and the body wax and I have tried the cold and hot waxes. I will never wax again.. And nair smells so bad and can be irritating to skin. My husbands older brother once tried using nair on his face and it did a number on his face. His whole face turned nothing but a red blotch and he had to go to work that way and boy was his face red we he had to explain what happened. My husband won't use anyhting but a razor He won't even use a electric one.I bought one of those hair things that is suposed to kill the roots..didn't work, I also bought one of those things that pulls hair out by the roots made hair thinner and softer but didn't make it stop growing..My husband said I have about 1-1/2 hair on my legs right now and it'd take a weed eater to get them all chopped off..shaving is my least favorite thing about grooming myself.

Wow. Your post does reflect much of what I have concluded. Women were pressured into this habit by beauty products and men. Men who hate to shave so often themselves ridicule a woman for not shaving her legs. Can you really imagine a man with so much facial hair so that his lips can hardly be seen telling a woman she ought to shave her legs. I love a clean shaved man but I know its a bother shave everyday so I will give and take there. I'll ask you what I asked of another poster. Have you ever introduced the idea of waxing to your husband? Seems the men dont mind us waxing to suit their desires so its only fair game for them to wax to suit ours inturn. Thanks for sharing. My husband doesn't really care about my hairy legs. But I have dark hair and 'I' like to wax (not shave). I also realized that the hair grows back softer after waxing...it takes much longer to grow back. I get it done once in 2.5 months. If I had light hair I wouldn't have bothered at all because I'm lazy to get it done...but sometimes I like my legs smooth when I'm wearing certain clothes which show off my legs. But most of my 'looking nice' is for myself. My husband doesn't care about the hair part and thinks the waxing is a waste of money...lol. But it makes me feel good and so I get it done. My mother's got light hair and I really would have left it that way if I had got the same....guess I inherited my dad's genes on this one...lol

Well, there is a little bit of an 'ouch' but it's something I can manage. I guess the person I go to is good:) And anyways, it's worth the it if I feel good. And I have atleast a month and half of clean legs...and that's fine. But most of the time if I don't need to wear something nice...I don't bother about it...and sometimes it's months before I get a wax. My husband doesn't seem to notice it either.

For the others they do admit the effect last longer but the entire process is tooo much of an "ouch."Hats off to you for being able to bear it. One key thing I noted here is that you do it to please you as your hobby doesnt mind the hair. Well thats all good. Thanks for sharing. (lol)

Not very thick i guess, if you just mean hairy like normal hairy not like the one who is curly thick which absolutely not good looking for a woman. If a woman is normally hairy since birth that is not so bad as it will not thick and curly and bad looking as the one that has been through shaving and grown after. Well woman needs to feel good about themselves or to feel comfortable not to feel bad and woman is tend to be clean and good looking especially their legs. As my choice i don't like very hairy legs. I want it clean and smooth.

I heard women in Germany, France, and a few other countries didn't shave their legs. I went to school with an African-American girl who didn't shave her legs and had no intention to. Me however, I shave my legs. I don't find it attractive on me at all. And I have to say the men I know and associate with prefer women with shaved legs. I have seen countless national shows where the men in the TV series make fun of women who do not shave their legs or underarms, like an easy joke for laughs. I don't think that is fair because sometimes it is a matter of culture. And different people are attracted to different things. But I'll always be one who shaves, I prefer the smoothness.
