How close do you keep your purse or your wallet?

I've noticed that when people are shopping or out and about that many times they will put their purse down in a cart or on a chair and walk away to look at other things. Alot of times the purse is wide open and you can obviously see a wallet and the money it contains. I have also noticed men who haven't tucked their wallet completely into their pockets. I am always having to remind women of their purse as they shop oblivious to the fact that they have left their handbag unattended. This is so dangerous. Not only could you lose the cash in your purse, but also any credit cards, id's or other personal information. Are you aware of where your handbag or wallet is at all times? Do you find that you keep it closer to your side when you are among alot of people? Or are you guilty too of leaving it unattended or not tucked away?

I only spend money around my wallet I have. Many times I spend more than I have. So I borrow my friend's money. Then I give back to her.

Though, it doesn't contain much. I keep it too close to me and close attention to it. Yes, many are too wide open and attracts temptation to the others who are evil minded. Maybe they have much to give away. LOL. It is still wise to take care of our belongings.

Yes, many people act lackadaisical enough to make you think that it would be of no consequence to them if they lost their belongings. Personally, I am not one of them.

I am so bad for that, I leave my wallet lying around and I have actually gotten it robbed about 6 times in my life. Once at university I took out a quarter to make a phone call, I had my wallet beside me and wasn't paying attention and somebody stole it right there and then. I am trying to be more vigilante and check myself more.

Shame on you. You really should try to be more aware of where you are keeping your purse and wallet so that you don't get taken from again.

hi kb, your up too huh? lol I ALWAYS my purse hooked around my arm. Even if its in the cart. My wallet is kept in the purse. And it is zipped shut.Guess that makes me paranoid. I used to leave it hanging on the back of a chair in a restaurant. But then I saw this program on 20/20 on this very topic. And I stopped that. Now it's in my lap or tucked between my feet. If in a booth my jacket goes over it, right next to me.

Yes, I'm up too. LOL. I am not supposed to have to work tomorrow, but I've volunteered to put in some extra hours doing some stock work. I'm still hyped up from working today, however. I sold over $2300 in shoes today. LOL. I too watch my purse pretty closely, not to say theres always alot in it, but I'd hate to have to replace any of my id's or other cards.

I notice this too, especially women who have pushchairs and put their handbags on the pushchairs, they then walk off and leave the pushchair to look at something leaving their bags too. I always know where mine is, and I never walk away and leave it, it is just not worth the risk at all, I could not afford to lose my purse or bag. If I am going shopping in a bigger town I always have an overbody bag that I wear under my coat so it is not in view.

I don't let mine get too far from me either. If I can't be with my shopping cart I have my son stand with it.

Hello, I agree with you completely. When i was 3 my mum and i were shopping and we went away from the trolley, when we came back, her whole bag (a pretty expensive one too) had been stolen. It had her purse (with all her credit cards) and all her buisness card, make-up etc in it. I don't think her phone was stolen but it could have been. Hope i helped. Aiden

I have had my purse stolen before also. I had it literally ripped off of my arm. Nothing worse than having to replace all your cards.

I usually try to keep my purse on my arm at all times. If I'm pushing the cart, I may place it in the cart, but it's right in front of me so I can see where it goes. If I turn to look at something, I usually place my hand on my purse, or pick it up from the cart and go look at what I want to look at. I'd rather be safe and have my belongings than sorry.

I don't blame you, because you just never know who might be around and watching your every move or an opportunity to pick up someones purse.

i never never leave my purse in the shopping cart! my grandmother used to do that all the time and one day it finally happened! someone just walked by when she was standing away from the cart looking at the shelf, grabbed her wallet with cash and credit cards in it, then walked out the store! she never noticed until she got to the counter! i dont see women leaving their purse unattended like that as much as i used to. i think the younger generation (by younger im talking 30's and 40's now lol) have much less trust in general compared to woman of my grandmothers age (83). unfortunatly its well earned, seems like nobody can be trusted anymore. that person who is offering to help you unload your groceries is probably more likely to try and kidnap/rob/rape you than actually WANT to help you. isnt that a scary thought!

As I said to someone previously, I would imagine that those that steal purses pretty much know what they are doing and can get away with it in the blink of an eye. It would be really easy to dissapear quickly into a crowd.

I keep mine close to me. My mom leaves her unzipped, and leaves it in her cart while she shops. I keep reminding her to zip it, but she doesn't.

I think that a lot of people are too loose with their purses. I have seen too, where people leave them in their carts and walk away from them. I think those people are asking for trouble. I always keep mine on my shoulder and closed. I once had my purse cut off of my shoulder while I was walking, at the Calgary Stampede, and stolen right off of me and I didn't even know till I went to get something out of it. There are people that are so good at stealing a person's purse that the ones leaving them unattended are looking to have it stolen. I did get my wallet back with all of my charge cards and ID still in it. I had reported it stolen to the police at the stampede and they couldn't do anything about it but when the washrooms were cleaned my wallet was found but not my purse. The police phoned me that it was found and I went and picked it up from them.

I like to keep a close eye on my wallet when I am away at places and not at home but when I am at home I really never pay attention to it. 95% of the time when someone steals from my wallet is at home so that means I have thiefs in my house or the people who visit my house are thiefs.

I usually carry my purse in a zipped pocket of my jacket and don't have it on view, but on occasion when I have a handbag I tend to forget I have it and will leave on floor next to me. My daughter is always telling me off. Mum do your bag up or keep hold of your bag which I think is why I tend to use zipped pockets in my jacket now. I am so trusting, but I suppose in this day and age I should be more careful. I left my purse on the side of a boat once that was on land it was a while before I realised but someone had found it and handed it in complete with all its contents. I think there are more honest people in the world than thieves and muggers but believe also we should be aware and keep our personal items safe from them. Ellie :D

I would like to think that there are honest people out there. Today I had a woman turn in someone's credit card. Many people wouldn't have done that.

I always keep the purse strap on my arm when shopping. It is too easy to look away for a second, and in that second it could be gone. When eating at a restaurant, I do put it on the back of my chair, but I feel that is OK since I usually sit with my back to the wall whenever possible (yeah I am strange lol). I have made exceptions at times, like when taking salsa lessons, where I would leave it somewhere I could attempt to keep an eye on it, or cover it with something else like a jacket. Usually this is in situations where I somewhat trust most of the people around me though. I don't often go to clubs and such, but if I did would attempt to carry a wristlet or no purse at all, to avoid having to put it down.

I will put my purse down in a cart to take the weight off of my shoulder, but when I turn to look at something, I will always have my hand on the purse strap, to ensure that it's near by, and so that nothing will happen to it.

I keep my purse in the front of the buggy but it is shut and I am always right beside the buggy I have. If I do leave it I make sure someone is there to watch it.

I always have me handbag around my shoulder when I shopping. I don't like to have it sitting in the shopping cart like I see some people doing. I think it's very absent-minded.

I keep my purse strapped over my shoulder and when I am walking aroudn a store I tend to keep my hand on where ther zipper is so no one can reach in and pick pocket out my billfold. I usually don't have much money in my purse but what I do have I need I can't afford to have it stolen.

i am very careful with my purse and very mindful of its whereabouts at all times. i always buy handbags that have a long should strap so i can wear my handbag slung over me and this way i never have to put it down. i also would never put it in the front of the shopping cart as i see many women doing. i even keep it out of sight in a closet when i have company over. you just never know...

i always keep my wallet on my pocket (cause I always wear jeans when i'm out) and if i'll go march in a crowded place i'll keep my senses up on my pocket so i can feel it if its gone or not.some pickpocketing persons will take advantage to get your money and other valueable things in a crowded place.
