Well chocolate (or any other delicious food) raises the feel good chemical in the brain. So when you eat something that you think tastes good, you become happier. This is why some people can become addicted to food. Well, they aren't truely addicted to the food, but to the chemical that the body produces because of food. Of course, food is not the only thing capable of raising this chemical in your brain. There are many other ways.
