If your having a baby can you truly say you are a man?

I am sure we have all seen the news stories on tv about the first man to have a baby. Will my brain can not wrap around this. Everyone knows a women is the only one that can give birth. The person was born a female. This person changes a few things about herself to have male features except the ability to give birth. Doesn't that still make the person female? Can that person truly claim she is a male and there fore the first male to give birth?

The thing is, no post-op transsexual is ever really the gender they identify as. A transsexual woman who has an operation to become a "man" is still a woman. She just has male equipment. If you take a look at her genes - the building blocks that made her who she was - she's still female. No amount of surgery and hormone therapy will ever change that. This woman who claims to be the first pregnant male, is really only so on paper. Legally she's identified as a man (which makes her the first LEGAL male to give birth), but genetically, she's still a woman. So now, currently there's no such thing as a pregnant man.

I didn't think you could be legally identified as a male if you didn't have the full monty! According to a previous comment she did not choose to get the distinctive male part. Can she really call herself male? She also didn't want to give up one of the main parts that make her stinctively female. That tells me somewhere deep inside she really does want to be female and not a male. Some deep issues there for this young woman. I have to say her parner kind of gave me the creeps. I am not sure why that is?

I honestly don't believe she preferred to remain female. If she had wanted to be female more than male, she would've skipped the surgery altogether. I'm guessing she kept her reproductive organ 'just in case'.

Regardless if she did or didn't. The fact that she refused to give up her uterus tells me she was not completely convinced she didn't want to be a women. Some part deep inside of her knows she is a girl and wasn't ready to let go. Identity crisis I would say.

I have a problem with that too! There is no man pregnant!! I mean come on he/she just had some parts of her body changed to look like a man but kept the internal baby making parts and now everyone is in an uproar about how a "man" is pregnant!! Gees I couldn't imagine the day that really did happen! NO man can have a baby, yeah a man that was born a woman can. It is a little crazy though to see "his" picture with the pregnant belly. I hope that everything turns out good for him/her and his/her wife..lol and I hope that the baby comes out fine. Good discussion, have a wonderful day!

I agree with you the day a man actually does have a baby then we would all have something to talk about. I think of this little baby as well; may he or she grow up with a strong sense of identity.

I have read so many articles and discussions about this and it makes me nuts everytime I hear about it LOL Ppl keep referring to her as a man but in reality she is a woman. She was born a woman, has woman parts and is giving birth...all things that only a woman can do. The fact that she started taking male hormones yet kept her female parts seems to say that she wasn't really serious about becoming a man. Personally I think it was done as a publicity stunt to get her 15 minutes of fame. **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

"The fact that she started taking male hormones yet kept her female parts seems to say that she wasn't really serious about becoming a man." Your right on that twoey! I totally think this person is having a serious identity crisis. Part of her wants to me a man for some reason but she just couldn't go all the way. I think she should be looking deep inside herself for those answers. I feel bad for her.

it is all cosmetics and deceit, the person is obviously a female. if she wants to live the lie (life) of a man then she should not be making an effort to conceive especially in such a fashion... sounds hypocrit to me... wants the cake and eat it too I suppose. how in the world did they impregnate her anyhow... not so direct a path to get to the ovaries I am thinking, as in a woman with the appearance of a woman.

I agree hypocritical to me. Either your women or a man. You want to be a man you give all your womanly gifts up.

She's not a man... I bet they're only doing it for the publicity... they probably think they can become popular... Just because she has more testosterone than she should it doesn;t qualify her as man (please don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to put her down) but the way they are showing it on the news, its like the impossible is happening...

According to one comment above no matter what she does to herself her DNA will always prove she was born a girl. I think your right the media always has to dramatize a story in hopes to get the worlds attention. Well guess what the world is not buying into it.
