If you're eating a diet that's full of variety then I don't think that taking vitamins is really necessary. I was always under the impression that anything over and above your daily requirements just got flushed back out of the body. Perhaps I'm wrong! Although we eat well, I do have some vitamins sitting on the shelf. They were bought for us & I figured that we'd be better to use them up than throw them out so I take one when I remember. Did this study say WHY they're not good for you?

This discussion has been on the tv and the radio this week Moo....it just says that theres evidence that supplementing your diet with vitamins is no good!!....that the vitamins dont actually do anything!! Now theres a lot of people who swear by them...and also spend a lot of money on them... The times ive been into the shops and have seen the prices that they can charge for them. Ive a friend who swears by Echinea ..think thats how you spelll it!!...she takes it to ward off colds....lots of females take them during their menopause....so how many will take any notice do you think??

I suppose that so long as the vitamins aren't activly hurting people then they're not doing any harm. There's allot to be said for the panacea effect, and if it makes people *feel* better, that has to be a good thing.

Yes I have heard this too, I have never used them, I never believed in them. I am glad now that I did not!! My hubby is always on about buying some to take, and I said to him that they are just a waste of money and will not do anything for you. I may have been right all along!!

It might do, for a while at least, but then a few months down the road it could end up being the opposite and that they make us live til we are 230!!!

I watched this on television this morning and have to say that the vitamins industry is making millions pushing their pills and potions, yet I see little benefit is taking too many vitamins on a daily basis. Most of the daily vitamins we need are in our foods, with a sensible and balanced diet. The only time I have ever taken extra vitamins is for a couple of weeks in the winter time, the extra vitamin C helps to keep colds at bay, but apart from that I prefer not to take them.

vitamins taken in required amounts usually through natural sources life fruits and vegetables are extremely beneficial. excess of vitamin intake in the form of pills is toxic to the body and causes hypervitaminosis. vitamin supplements are only prescribed to people who are vitamin deficient and show symptoms of vitamin deficiency due to their malnutritious diet. It is not advisable to take excess vitamin pills. a better option would be to consume vitamins through ur fruits and vegetables and nuts.
