Chinua Achebe - whose even heard of him?

Chinua Achebe is the author of Things Fall Apart as well as many other novels. It is based in this homeland of Nigeria, and is focused on the story of one man's life in his village and as part of his tribe; Igbo. Chinua Achebe writes in English, as he believes that the colonised have an upper hand if they learn the coloniser's language. Whereas as some other Nigerian writers struggle to see it in this light. If anyones read more of his work I'd like to hear your views, or just general comments on him. Or other African writers and books you enjoy. Thank you.

I was actually taking a class where we were supposed to read his book "Things Fall Apart" unfortunately I didn't finish the class because of some problems. I am taking the class again this semester that is coming up and I am really excited. We get to read stories from authors that are from other places of the world. Chinua Achebe included I am really excited to read his novel because it sounds really interesting.

It is but personally I really like C. Adichie's Half of a Yellow Sun which is also based in Nigeria but is a more modern book. It is about the civil wars in the 60s, though the plot itself is fictional (like Achebe's). I definitely recommend it.

Well then I gues I'll have to pick that one up to so I can read it. Ever since I took that class i've been really interested in stories from other countries because they are so exotic and different from what I'm used to reading here in the U.S. Thanks for the recommendation.
