I am 48 ! I used to hate to see shortforms being used by yongsters in SMSs ! Like U is used to indiacate You, 4 is used for 'for', 1 is used to say one, R is used for are etc. I used toget annoyed and angry thinking that these kids of today are spoiling the language of English. But now a days having got exposed to this type of language I think you really require imagination and skill , so that your message should be short, easily constructed and at the same time it should be easy for others to understand!I have developed interest in such messages and I try to construct my own messages with such shortcut languages and I feel that I am also travelling with time and not against it! What is your opininon about this ? Please post your valuable views and oblige!

Hello my friend. Well, I seldom sms to start with (lol). But when I do, I like to type out things in full. And because I use predictive text, the words will come out (thus making for faster "typing") only if I am aiming for the legitimate words. I only convert some of them to short forms when I have too many characters. Imagine if I am only allowed 160 characters for a message, it doesn't make sense for me to pay for 2 if I am just a few characters extra.

yes i use alot of short forms while typing a message on cell or mail or responding to discussions. its tuff to write full forms now and because of this short forms habbit i tend to forget the spellings and hence i make a lot of mistake.

I'm 13, me and my friends (most of them) don't use shortforms. We actually type out the whole message. I find it hard to decipher the short forms, which are constantly changing

I use both when i am texting my friends or my children i use the shortforms. But when i text my partner i use full words as he finds the shortforms hard to understand. Because he is dyslexia and the words move about on him. So he much prefers longhand.

I use either. It all depends on the length of the text. If it's a short message I will use proper punctuation and grammer, a long message then I will use shortened text to fit it in to one page.

I too use short abbreviations etc when sending messages, the first reason for this was to try and fit a whole message into one text so it doesnt cost as much lol. I have used it ever since and i must admit it has become second nature, so much so that i find myself writing in the form at times which i dont like at all, i use abbreviations a lot for work too as we have to and it just becomes part of my life, i must admit i do not like them too much but needs must and all that lol.

I rarely use short forms in SMS. I just don't like those shortcuts that are too difficult to 'read' :D
