Are you sleeping more?

I don't really know what's happening but I find myself sleeping more and more. I know that I abused a bit when I was younger. Nights awake , not enough sleep, etc. etc. But even when I slept enough, the average was about 6 to 7 hours of sleep. Now that I am approaching my 50s I seem to need at least 8 to 9 hours of sleep. ANd since I never do that, I end up needing a nap when I get home from work. THe funny part is that I thought that people needed less sleep as they aged. NO scientific proof for this, just that most older people I know tell me that they're sleeping only 4 to 5 hours and that they are not sleepy. The only person I know that could sleep forever was my dad. He could sleep and sleep and then at night he would go to bed and sleep some more LOL If he wasn't my adoptive dad I would think that it was something in the genes, but since he was can't use that :) SO what about you, are you sleeping more or less than what you used to ?

I will go investigate first. I will check the insides of my eyelids to see if they have pin holes to let in light. While I am there, I might just take a nap.

I am sleeping less, Insomnia. At your age its obvious that you sleep more, The old you grow the more you sleep. Old people are compared to kids in few things and this is one among them. I have seen my grandmother who is 87 years old and sleeps for almost 12 hours in day. I sleep for some 5 - 6 hours regularly and once in a week, i drink and then i sleep for some 10 hours. I will compensate the less sleep that i had the whole week on the weekends. After all being busy and tensions wont let me sleep well.

I am sorry to hear about your insomnia. I never had it. Even in periods of time where I am really worried about something, I never had insomnia. I guess compensating makes sense to me, since some nights I don't sleep enough.

I sleep more than I should be, but that is due to lack of having anything to do. It is so boring at my house and every entertainment thing we have, I've used or watch so many times it isn't enjoyable (at least not for a few months after I stop using it). I seriously need to find new stuff to do. Hopefully I'd be able to start college soon. I am at a community college right now on Mylot while waiting for an appointment with the financial advisor. Hopefully, I'd be able to meet lots of new people and have new stuff to do!

Tes, sometimes we sleep because we are bored. People also tend to sleep more when they are depressed, that part I know, and maybe it has a bit to do with my sleeping habits.

I have noticed that I sleep more and more too. Ever since I got over I started sleeping more. I think it has a lot to do with ago. Also, If you are over weight. I have sleep apnea also. I also have depression. With all that I'm lucky if I'm awake at all. LOL I can sleep for 15 hours straight. I don't do it very often but I can. I sleep late, until about 11 am or 12 pm then about 5pm take nap. Then a stay up until 2am or so. I'm a night owl too. I can sleep better during the day. I've always been like that. What about you?

AH, I have sleep apnea too.. and I could safely say that I am a bit depressed, and I know that both things are a cause too. I tend to go to sleep quite late, and yes sleeping during the day seems more satisfying.

Well i use to be a big sleeper and i couldn't actually get up int the mornings, but these days it's a different story. I usually sleep around 8 hours give or take an hour but i'm getting up earlier and earlier every day without the tiredness, that's a good thing though, although i'm not sleeping more i feel much better.

I always slept well but never had trouble waking up except for the time when I had hepatitis. But I didn't use to sleep as much as I do now, and still wake up tired. grrrr :)

I am doing about the same as I did in high school, 6.5-7 hours nightly. Every once in awhile, I do need an extra bit. I will go to bed early or sleep in late. I am in my mid fifties.

Hi arkaf I think everyones body needs a different amount of sleep. Now that Im getting older I dont need as much sleep. I wake up really early in the morning. And I dont even use an alarm clock.LOL So if you sleeping more your body is trying to tell you that its needed.

I don't use an alarm clock either, but then again I never did. I always seem to be able to wake up more or less at the time I need to. But my sleep schedule is not the best, I guess, plus I have been a bit down and stressed which has something to do with sleeping as well.

I could be sleeping more if I can afford to. However I just do not have the privilege. Whichever, I still make sure I have at least 6 hours of sleep a day. I sleep late and yet have to wake up early.

I am not sleeping that much now as i used to sleep sometime ago as i am a student and most of the times i spend in the college and then i have to do alot of work online so it takes too much time of mine that i can just sleep for 5 hours and still i don't feel tired or sleepy at all, perhaps now i am addicted for the short sleeps. I think still sleeping of about 8 hours is necessary for everyone to refresh the minds and to avoid the some of the diseases like migraine that can be arise due to the improper sleeping so its better that you are sleeping the for the proper hours and if you want to decrease your sleeping habit you can always engage yourself in some work that can really help you in decreasing your sleeping hours.

I don't know if I really want to sleep less, it's just that it's a bit more than what I used to sleep. Or maybe it's just my schedule that is not the best. After all I tend to go to sleep late and wake up early.

I'm currently a 2nd year college student, and I definitely sleep more than I used to. While I oftentimes do not go to bed until 3 in the morning, I also find myself taking 2-3 hour naps in the middle of the day. My sleep schedule's a little screwed up because of the fact that I go to University. But then again, I think that it's normal to try and get at least 8 hours of sleep in a 24 hour period. :-D

Well you have to be really tired, thus the need for more sleep. MY sleep schedule is not the best either, and I do think it has a bit to do with me sleeping more.

i read in some science magzine that on an everage a human body needs rest for 7-8 hours per day. I sleep for 8 hours every day. My sister takes care of all cooking and househols activities so i am bit relaxed just to do the office work.
