I am so sorry to hear of your loss. It will take your son some time to get over losing his puppy. I was 19 when I lost my first pet it was a poodle that my dad had bought when I was in about the 5th grade. His name was snoopy. I just adopted a couple kittens from the humane shelter I got them young 4 so they would live to grow up with my kids. I hope you son gets over his loss. I don't know if maybe getting him another puppy would help now or not.

I remembering lose quite a few pets growing up. Three I still talk about to this day. The one I miss the most was our poodle, FeFe. Sorry about his loss :(

Losing a pet is often th same as losing a family member. It is never easy. It will hopefully help prepare the children for their life.

jer31558, I am very sorry to hear about your loss. It is hard enough to loose a pet to begin with and trying to explain it to a young child can be a challange. Help him keep his chin up, be honest with him, let him know puppy went to a better place to get well for know. And maybe he will see him again some day when he is better. I currently work as a veterinary technician and we treat a fair number of Parvo cases every year. Most of them are unvaccinated puppies under 6 months old. Or those who have only had their 1st puppy vaccine( not enought to protect them). It is best to do some research on Parvo before you get another puppy. But here is some information that I hope can help. Use BLEACH WATER to clean everything your puppy had contact with in your house-toys, bedding, dishes, floor, kennel, grass outside where he deficated(pooped on). This is very important before you even consider getting a new puppy. The parvo virus is spread through secretions like vomit and feces. It can survive for at least 5 or 6 months outdoors even with harsh weather. The sun helps to kill the virus cells but indoors it can live for up to 1 year or longer. Use a mixture of BLEACH AND WATER... 4oz bleach to 1 gallon of hot water. Bleach water is the most effective solution you can use to kill the virus. Getting another puppy??--- WAIT AT LEAST ONE YEAR OR LONGER until the virus is out of your environment. Please make sure you get your new puppy to the vet to get the entire series of 3 vaccines given around 4 weeks apart. Normally given as a combination injection(Distemper, Hepatitis, Parainfluenza, Leptospirosis,PARVO,Carona). If he stops eating, vomits or has diarrhea please don't wait to have him tested for parvo!!! Take care.

I have something to say here Iwas so traumatized by something I saw our hired man do when I was a kied that I never forgot it. I was probably around six and the hired hand's little girl was my same age. we went intothe tool shed and there he was stangling the last puppy of a litter of six. He growled at me dont tell your daddy if you know whatw good for you. we just cannot feed that many pups. I was so scared of that man and i had nightmares until I told my mom. My mom told my dad and my dad was livid. he immediatelytold the hired man that he was fired. He did not want any man who would kill innocent puppies on his farm. my Dad would not let us have pets when i was growing up, because if something happened to it we would be upset so i have no idea what to say or how to help.
