Minimum wage here in the Philippines is based on several factors. These factors are: (1)Needs of workers and their families which include demand for living wage, wage adjustment, cost of living and changes, needs of workers and their families and improvements in standards of living; (2)Capacity to pay of employers/industry which include fair return on capital invested and to pay of employers and productivity; (3)Comparable wages which include prevailing wage levels; (4)Requirements for national development which include need to induce industries to invest in the countryside, effects on employment generation and family income, equitable distribution of income and wealth along the imperatives of economic social development. This is the reason why, in the Philippines, minimum wage vary across regions. In our city, basic wage for non-agriculture industry is Php225.00 plus cost of living allowance of Php10.00; for agriculture industry, Php222.00 plus cost of living allowance of Php5.00; and Php235.00 plus cost of living allowance of Php10.00 for the retail/service industry with more than 10 employees and Php215.00 plus cost of living allowance of Php10.00 for retail/service industry with less than 10 employees.

In the Philippines we have the Law implimented from the Department of Labor specifically on wage which is the 70/30 distribution of the company. The 70 refers to percentage of income of the company that would be given to the employees while the 30% is for the improvement or the management side.We still have general minimum wage wage of 241. But there are some industries did not follow the rules implemented that is why the people would comment that the wage has several factors.

The factors I have enumerated are actually those prepared by the National Wages and Productivity Commission of the Department of Labor and Employment here in the Philippines.

Youve said it all, you have a copy of the latest DOLE handouts. It is now Php385 and workers were asking for Php125. When you increase the salary many business will also close shop. Perhaps the goverment can do better. Not necessary increase in salary but some freebies instead, free uniforms, free transportation, free medical assistance, free meals, at last it will not form part of the income subject to taxation.

Well, my data is based on the minimum wage here in Baguio City. I believe that it is Php385 in Manila (from my notes, it is between Php325-Php362). And yes, workers are asking for a Php125 across-the-board wage increase. With all prices increasing... I believe there really should be an increase. You are right, if they can't give an increase in salary, at least they come in other forms like what you have already enumerated.

I agree with you bagumbayan, since it is not easy for some employers to concur with the demand of their workers for the increase of salaries or minimum wage, they might as well offer additional benefits to alleviate the workers condition just as you have mentioned.

I think minimum is $5.25 an hour. I am not sure. Most places pay better than that $8.50-$12/hour to start.

Wow! $5.25 per hour? The amount Php225.00 when converted to dollars would only be around $5.65 plus cost of living allowance of Php10.00 or $.25. That's a total of $5.90 PER DAY here in our city.

Hi dolce_vita! Very low is it not, that is why most people can't really afford to raise a family with that kind of salary unless they are prepared to live a life full of sacrifices. Just my thoughts dear friend! Take care and have a nice day!

we are the same country of course we have the same wage count. nowadays, we face economic crisis, people well still work even much lower the the agreed and approved minimum wage because they prefer to have work than nothing. some company did not followed the wage increase even they are qualified to do so. employees option is to continue work despite against their will because they prefer to have work than terminated from their work. i stop working because of this principle i can't take this, i work as a higher rank in a company before but i am disappointed with this kind of policy not for me but for my subordinate. it's unfair to them the company did nothing.
