Does anyone know if this can be garnished? I sure hope not. I need the money to go visit my kids. I would use it for a plane ticket.

Yes, this can be garnished. Usually, if it is the IRS will send you a letter explaining where the money went. However, I have noticed that if you use direct deposit sometimes they are not able to garnish it in time and you may still receive the money. I had this happen a few times. I got the letter in the mail, but the money was still deposited into my account. With the IRS there is just no telling. So keep your fingers crossed. I hope everything works out for you.

Don't worry. I'm sure everything will work out. I have noticed that they are less likely to garnish from the federal end.

It may. If it does, the IRS will send you a notification letter explaining where the money went and why. Some examples of this could be past due taxes, student loans, wage garnishments, or child support. If you have further questions, contact the IRS. http://cashmoneylife.com/2008/04/21/economic-stimulus-rebate-frequently-asked-questions/ This is the answer I found to your question and the link where I found the anwer.

I hope that I get it because I could use it to buy my textbooks and buy some new clothes. I am in dire need of new clothes. I would also spend it on stuff like going to a movie or something. Since I don't really go to movies too often I'll take advantage of that and go. But hopefully i do get it.

my sister-in-law wont be getting hers -- it is going to pay her husbands past due student loans.
