What you mean DVD-RIP? Is it a video file you downloaded or a video file that you have extracted from a movie DVD? Have you tried using Windows Media Player to play the video? You need codec for playing avi files, dvdrip files. You can download Klite codec pack and install that. Then you can play dvdrips. Or you can also use Vlc player for playing avi files.

Well, all you need to do have a media player and some decoder which can play your dvd-rips. I use one of the greatest media player known as media player classic, And the codec pack I use for them is Combined community codec pack which is free of charge.
