when we have such a problem of overcrowding in our animal shelters. why do you think some people overlook dogs and cats at the animal shelter? does anyone have a pet from the humane society? if so, isnt it true they give out sooo much love!??

I personally would never buy a dog from a pet tore. You don't know if the poor animal was from a puppy mill or not. I have adopted a couple of dogs from our local Humane Society as well as one from the local dog pound in the next town over. I love each and every one of our dogs. We have a total of five dogs right now that we have rescued. I wish more people would stop to consider how many animals out there that are looking for a nice safe loving home.

I would never buy an animal from a Pet Store. They are outrageosly priced.I was at the pet store at a local mall a couple of weeks ago and a mixed breed puppy was $500! I have never adopted from our local animal shelter but i've never been given the opportunity. I lived in an apartment before that didn't allow pets. But now I live in a house so I may just do that one day. I love animals.

I have had both, I had a golden retriever that was a pound puppy, she was great, but that breed is very loving and wants to please. I now have a dog that I bought from a very reputable breeder, the reason, I wanted an AKC registered female, because we are going to breed her with a registered male. My daughter has two dogs one that was a pound dog and one she bought from a pet store, she too wanted to breed her new puppy, so she wanted a registered dog. As for just getting a dog for a pet, pound puppies are great, and there are plenty of dogs up for adoption to choose from.

Yes, shelter dogs give a ton of love when they are rescued! That being said, I see both sides of the coin. I truly feel that shelter dogs should be everyone's first choice, but... In many places, you can't find puppies in the shelters, and if you have small children, a puppy is the way to go, since you just never know how a rescue dog is going to deal with things.

I got a dog from the animal shelter years ago when my children were young and it had a couple of fits, I had to take it back to the shelter and they said it was the shock of getting out, so since then we have bought from people who could not keep them anymore, as I was to scared to get from the animal shelter after that

No...it is definitely NOT ok...in addition to there being so many animals that need homes, the pet shops , more often than not, aquire their animals from indiscriminate breeders, and puppy mills. UGLY BUSINESS! buy pet supplies there, but no cats or dags. The shelter, or a reliable breeder(check local chapters of the dog breed you wish to adopt), or a dog breed rescue is the way to go, from puppies and kitten to adult dogs and cats, there is nothing you can't find there, that you could get at a pet store...and you can feel much better about it.

I would never buy a cat or a dog from a pet shop, there are far too many unwanted and unloved animals out there who need loving homes. All my cats have been rescue cats, and I would rather go to an animal shelter for a pet than spend money in a pet shop.
