WE have a business that we do on the weekends, at a flea market. Well yesterday there was a 70% chance of rain all day. So we didnt go Sunday, but when we woke up it was nice and sunny outside and i was mad, it was to late to go ahead and go to try to make money. So we had a day off, but it was a day off that we could of made money. So this weekend we made 80$ and thats it, less then half of what we usually make. We did go ahead and order more inventory, which brought us more in debt, be we are fine. I was thinking about doing a yard sell type think on Thursdays, and Fridays and have our little jewelry booth out, What do you think about this idea? Do you think people will come and buy new stuff at what was thought to be an yard sell?

If the stuff is good, I'm sure they would buy. I've been to many yard sales and people sold alot of new things and I've seen people buy.

Well I would stop by for sure but I wouldnt say it was a yard sale call it a sample sale thats what they do out here and people will go to it i know I have before. Specially if its jewlery lol. Or if you want just put some stuff out you dont need and have a real yard sale and sell your jewlery too.

Like I said sample sale.....I dont know if its poular there if not you can start the trend. Alot of yard sales here also do sample sales which is just a way of saying new stuff for fairly cheap. Alot of those catalog companies do that (mary kay,avon,tupperwear,etc.).

yea we dont have those here, but i can give it a try, they have like tupaware partys and whatnot, which i also thought of, but i just dont know enough people to invite over. I also thought of making a website, not really to have orders done online, but to pass cards out to people around here so they can go see what we have and then decide if they want to come to the house and buy something.

thats what i thought about doing at first, get all our family members junk together too, and have a yard sell with our jewelry set up, give it time and when people realize we are there with the jewelry they might come back. i was trying to think what kind of sign to put up other than yard sale, Jewelry sale will make people think there going to be on sale (which our prices are real cheap compared to others anyways) but i couldnt think of anything else to put

please, do not feel bad. it was a wise decision because what if it came thru and it did rain? consider it as a responsible call. going into business isn't as good as you have forecast it, it may either slump or sell, there are times. yes, why don't you do a yard sale kind of thing but do not call it a yard sale because people will only get pissed. or look at it this way, you may have overshoot your inventory but in the long run you have more items to sell, more income and a lot more rollback capital. in business, always look in the positive perspective of things because these things happen and it happens for a very good reason.

oh we want an overshoot of inventory, the more we have the more we sell, we are only 1000$ in debt and were keeping it that way and our profits are going back into inventory, untill we feel like putting it into the debt. we arnt hurting, and its doing good so we just see it doing better.

I really do not think it would do well in a garage sale, and i will tell you why...When people go to garage sales they are looking for real cheap stuff, new stuff does not go over to well to tell you the truth....YOU CAN SELL NEW STUFF AND OLD STUFF AT A FLEA MARKET and they will pay higher prices at a flea market....I am a seasoned garage sale goer for years and i have a pretty good idea what will sell....If you want to give it a try then by all means do,but do not expect too much....

Well our city just got a new law anyways, stating that you can only have a yard sale two times a year. so I cant do it now. It figures they pass this law just before i think of this. I was going to have yard sale stuff in with it and thought that, that might work, or put up signs that said something differant than yard sale. I dont know. I guess i have to figure out a differant way to get our business have more customers

I think it would work. As long as you had the sign say something else then "yard sale". I know there is this lady down the road from me that makes these really pretty wind chimes and other things that twirl. I see her periodically sitting out in her yard displaying them for sale. I don't know how well she does, as I have never stopped and talked to her. Have you thought about having an online store to sell the stuff? There are some free ones out there. I use one to sell beaded jewelry that my mom and I make.

WE thought about that, but i havent really LOOKED into it just yet, we have only been in business for a little over a month. Its awsome though because we are doign good. We may not be making a living, or paying off our debt just yet, but we are building inventory up more and more. one reason i havent looked into a online store is because I dont know if i want to deal with shipping. We probally will do this sooner or later though. Our county gives you signs that already say Yard Sale, i was wondering if i use those down the road, but in front of our yard i put a jewelry sale sign up, but at the same time i know that people that want to buy jewelry may not come to a yard sale. I was going to add yard sale items to the mix though. I wonder if i can still make my own sign to put up. Thanks for your responce.

Well you never know until you try, is what I always say. If you have an idea like that I would just give it a go, then you can see if it works. You will not lose anything by trying so that is not a problem. People will come and have a look and if they like what they see then they will buy!!

It is not a compliment, sometimes I can see that someone is set on something just by the way that they are, and you come across as set on it and that is fantastic. I always have lots of ideas about doing this, or doing that but looking after 4 kids and a hubby and a house means that often my good ideas never come to anything because of other committments. I would say that your fiance may have started the ball rolling with you, but you are definately the driving force now, it is nice to hear happy stories coming out of sad times.

I might be disappointed if I stopped at a yard sale and it was all new jewelry. Maybe you could throw a few household items in you have laying around and don't want anymore. Or maybe you could just call it a jewelry sale. Or ask friends and neighbors if they have anything they want to sell. I would stop though and might even buy something if it was good stuff at a low price. I pack my vehicle the day before I go to the market then go and sleep there. I set up my tables and unload everything in tubs under the tables then cover with plastic if I think it might rain. If I pretty much know it's not going to rain I sometimes set everything up and cover it with plastic to keep the night dampness off. That way my truck is empty to sleep in. It's like free camping, I used to take my kids and pets even.

I followed signs to a "New Jewelry Sale" once, and so did a number of other ladies - you might try that instead of "yard sale"

There is no right or wrong way to do business. Business is about putting effort and time to sell your products. You may want to publicize your location of business widely by giving out flyers to the neighbor cities or residents to attract their attention to your yard. On the day of operation, you may want to have loud music to grab everybody's attention much like a party. In addition, if possible, give discounts for buyers and ask them to spread the word for you. In addition, if people doesn't come to your yard then it must be due to luck else there should be customers. However, you will need to act fast when the sky starts to look gloomy. You will either need to relocate your customer to another location or close the operation until the rain stops. I truly believe that people will come to your yard and look at what do you have, if they are fascinated and attracted to your jewelery, they will buy it.

They might well do sweetheart but I would just say to make sure that there aren't any laws requiring you have a license or anything first - I know that here in the Uk you have to have a license to trade in the street! xxx

I personally don't think so. When people go to yard sell, they will put this in mind that all the things that are sold there are going to rock bottom price.

The best thing i can tell you is to do what works best for you. Like the quote says, one mans junk is another mans treasure. I know how u feel when you are working for a profit and then you have to sit out a day and do nothing, but think about the money that u would have made. And personally i believe that if you ar ehaving what you would call a yard sale with all NEW things. You sal should be a blow off. Good Luck with it!

Of course it could work. Usually people love to come to the yard sale. You just put a marker like "Brand New" in you jewelry booth and explain to people who asked its not used goods.Told them cause its a special ocassion, you gave the jewelry like maybe 10% off of your usual price at flea market. (if you can afford it) As long as you had interesting jewelry, people might bough your goods, specially the ladies.
