My cat was an outdoor cat the first year of his life, but he has mostly adjusted to being inside since I adopted to him. Every now and then he would long for the old days and make a dash for the door if someone let it stand open too long. He doesn't usually go far before he stops to sniff something, but if there is a tree, he's likely to scale it. He's 10 now, so those door sprints are few and far between these days. Even if I lived somewhere I felt comfortable enough to let him outside without getting in a fight or run over, I probably wouldn't, mainly because he's so trusting of everyone and charming, that he would end up living at someone else's house!

unless i take them out on a leash in the backyard, they all stay in. the 3 of them seem to be terribly afraid of cars,if they hear one they'll run back in the house.sometimes i bring one out on the porch to sit,but it usually doesn't last long.

Most definitely! There is just too much traffic on the streets nearby and too many drivers who would just as soon as run animals over. Plus, there are additional hazards from obnoxious school kids, dogs, and other cats. There is no way that I would allow my fur babies to roam around outside. They're healthier for it and my nerves are calmer because of it.

I don't have a cat now but when I did have a cat a couple of years ago it was a inside cat. There are so many things that a cat can catch I didn't want to take any chances. I got her when she was still a baby kitten. Just weigned from her Mom and she was never outside. I had to put her to sleep a couple of years ago. I had had her for 17 years and she was a excellent companion and friend.

My cat is an indoor cat. I would love to let her outside, but I live in an apartment complex and there are several VERY large cats here. Since I am not completely familiar with the area, and the other cats around, I don't feel comfortable letting her out on her own. She still has claws, but I got her as a rescue and am not sure if she went out before I got her, so I don't want to tempt fate. I do let her out on the porch with me so she gets to go look outside, and she likes to ride around in the car. When I am going out for just a short trip, like to to post office or bank where I am in the car the whole time, I will take her with me, but for the most part she stays inside.

Yep. My lazy old fool always stays indoor. I suppose he likes the warmth.
