Northern Europe is several countries, so first you'd have to make up your mind whether you want to see one country or as many as possible. Travelling between Norway, Sweden, Finland and Denmark is easy, Iceland takes a bit more time and if you want to see the islands you'd need to plan a bit more. Both the Faroes and Ă…land are worth seeing though. Northern Europe is quite pricey, so living in youth hostel and cooking your own food when you can is probably a good idea. I live here but I nearly always live with friends when I travel in Norway or other countries in Northern Europe. There are different things in each country. Most famous are maybe the fjords in Norway and the islands in Lofoten in Northern Norway. In Sweden, Stockholm is a beautiful city with a nice archiplegago, the same for Helsinki. If you go in the winter, you can to the north of Norway or Finland to see the Northern Lights. In Denmark there's nice little villages, nice beaches and it's very flat so it's great to go bicycling. Iceland has a very special landscape with all the lava, and in Finland there's all the lakes where you can fish or swim or just sit in the evening and kill mosquitoes :-)

Im from Sweden and must say that it's really amazing here, but I absolutely recomend you to go visit Norway. It must be one of the worlds most beautiful countries ever and you can't never get enough of the beautiful nature.

I would say you should go to Sweden! I will be there this December to visit my boyfriend, he lives in Stockholm. I am so excited to see his country! And yes! They are very peaceful and don't get into wars, another good thing is that the college and the health care is free (college is even free for non-citizens, you also get many other benefits by living there. I am sure I will live there someday, whether I am with my boyfriend or not! The people are great, and the culture is very rich and interesting.
