The kid that mows my lawn left the gate open-again-and I didn't notice till I got a phone call asking if I was missing a dog. Gus has run out of the gate and down the street to visit whomever would give him the time of day! Cookie, however, stayed in the yard. If not for his ID tag, I wouldn't have known where he was and nobody would have known where to call! These tags only cost a few dollars and are engraved with the dog's name, address and phone number. I'm so glad that I got my dogs these tags! Does you dog have these tags, have they ever done their job?

We lost our family dogs some times ago. it happen when my borhter forget to close the front door and let our dog runaway. It turn out the dog didnot know how to come home to our house after she run to other street. Thank god that nobody kidnap her and sold her or worse eat her. A wek later, we found her in other people house who take her under their wing cause she seems lost. Thanks for those family, Yellow (our dog) get back to our house safely.

Do people eat dogs where you live?! I can't imagine that, they're such sweet creatures. Of course, they found an oriental restaurant was serving cat meat in a city close to where I live. And I used to eat there years ago! I'm so glad you got Yellow back! That was so nice of that family to take her in and care for her. There are many good people in this world!

I had this experience too, but my dog doesn't had a tag then. "Christmas", our dog's name, she was an adult dog already when she was given to me by my dad's worker, he can't keep her anymore because he's leaving for a work abroad. Anyway, she went missing the next day she was turned over. She was looking for her owner. She doesn't have a tag, so I drove around our subdivision, searched thru all the streets and looked for her. I found her walking tired, I picked her up and we went home. She's a lovely dog. I got her at Christmas time, so I gave her the name Christmas. Then last month, me and my mother in law were heading to downtown, when we found a jack russel trying to cross the street. She could have been hit by some cars passing by. We pulled over and let her in the car. She's so hyper! We called the number in her tag and brought her back. The owner was so thankful, and she said she often goes out even the gate's on. I would keep her if she doesn't have a tag. She's sooo cute!

I'm so glad you rescued the little terrier! They jump so high that fences can't hold them sometimes--they even climb fences! Lots of energy and curiosity, too. Poor Christmas! I hope she's accepted her new home by now, it must've been sad for her to lose her first human. I'm sure you make her happy.

I have had a similar situation. We had some work done on our house. The gate was left open. We have terrific nieghbors. I didn't even know that our dog had gotten out. Until I saw my neighbors son carrying my 45 lb dog back up the street. He put her in the yard and shut the gate.

What a good neighbor! I was so scared after I went and got Gus, thinking of how he could've been hit by a car or kidnapped. I'm also fortunate to have good neighbors, they are worth their weight in gold!
