A lightbulb manufactured in 1901 burns bright to this day. Well I had to research it because I think it is totally cool. This is what I found. There is a light bulb burning bright at a fire station in Livermore, California. It hasn't been turned off since 1901. The Guinness Book of World Records, Ripley's Believe It Or Not and General Electric agree the bulb, of unknown wattage, is the longest-living in history, despite two moves and a few power outages during its lifetime To read more go here" http://www.snopes.com/science/lightbulb.asp. They sure don't make them like they use to.

Another piece of History that we were taught wrong in school. Kowgirl and your information are very interesting. If light blubs were made as good today as they were back then These light bulb manufacturers would be out of business wouldn't they. I find it interesting that Thomas Edison took advantage of all the brains around him to get so many things invented. Lewis Howard Latimer was just one of them

Wow! That is fascinating...It looks somewhat like a lightbulb invented by Joseph Wilson Swan back in 1860.(Read about the first lightbulb here http://i-know-do-you-know.blogspot.com/2008/03/light-bulb.html I wonder how many more years this bulb will be burning. It just goes to show you that if a thing is done right then there is no need to try to improve it. It is more like a nightlight from what I have read about it. Low wattage keeps it from getting hot. I sure hope it last another 100 years.

If that is not the most incredible thing you've ever heard... to think how many generations that's been. My great-great-great grandparents were still alive when that light bulb was brand new!
