My cat is not afraid of the vacuum cleaner. How about yours?

For awhile our kitten was terrified by the noise of the vacuum cleaner. And, now she is not. Maybe she is just accustomed to the noise. Cats are funny that way. One minute they hate something and the next minute they don't. My big cat has been afraid of the vacuum since he was a baby. And, now, ten years later, he still runs under the bed everytime I drag out the Electrolux. Is your cat afraid of loud noises, like the vacuum? Do cats ever get over their fear? What's your thoughts on this?

cat and vacuum - usually cats are afraid of noise made by vacuume
Hello beuatyqueen. I think that when something new happens to a cat, it will take some time for it to get used to it. Once this kind of fear of getting over new things is adapted, the cat will feel much better, but the big cat of yours might be an exception. hehe, it is very interesting of your cats though. Thanks for sharing, beautyqueen.

Yes, the big cat is truly unique. He can drink milk. And, I have heard from other MyLotters that most cats cannot drink milk. He's a rare one. I will miss him when he's gone. He reminds me of my brother who passed away when I was a teen. Thanks for dropping by. Be well.

All of our cats hate loud noises. And all of our cats hate the vaccuum. My cat knows what the vaccuum is too and as soon as she sees it, she runs away and hides for as long as she possibly can too. She won't come back until she's really sure that I don't have the vaccum out anymore.

i wouldn't say they're terrified, but they give it a respectable distance while i'm cleaning.they'll go room to room ahead of it-i think it bothers their ears.

My female cat, EB is not afraid at all, she just doesn't choose to associate with the vacuum, she is such a snob! LOL!

My cat who is 1yr. and 2 months old is scared of the vaccum. When he see me take it out of the closet he starts running to hide under the couch til I am done vaccuming and the vaccum is totally put away back in the closet and he know's the coast is clear. I got him when he was 5 months old and he never liked it then either. Yes cats can be funny when it comes to this kind of thing. I have tried to let him go near it when it's off and just laying on the floor and he'll check it out but god forbid I start it he's gone like the wind. I think once a cat is scared it stays like that. Cat's don't like loud noises ( mine especially ) and they stay that way mine hasn't changed yet.

That is very sweet! Yes, I have tried to get my cats to love the vacuum, but most of them don't.

Well, my Waffles cat runs away at the slightest loud sound, such as thunder. She'll also run if I raise my voice at her and scold her for being a bad girl. Her eyes widen and she takes off. She's fat, too, and her little overweight body just takes off like a rocket. My other cats aren't fond of vacuums either, although my Columbus cat doesn't seem to mind thunder. Waffles is the only scaredy-cat.

Well my cat has always been afraid of the vacuum and I don’t think that will change to soon; each time I turn it on, she gets out of the room and usually goes under a bed in another room.

My cat did exactly as yours did but eventually, i guess, they get used to it. And I wouldn't worry, it probably just thinks it's another dog barking at it!
