Oh, absolutely! I think pets can make a big difference in a person's attitude and health. There have been studies done that say that a person with a pet in their life will have a lower blood pressure, and feel more calm, plus many more benefits. I know with myself, as well as with other older folks, having a pet around is a fine solution to lonliness...plus they give you unconditional love! My one daughter has a dog that is a therapy dog. She takes it to visit people at nursing homes and hospital children's wards sometimes. The pure joy of being able to pet an animal, and having that love returned, brings such joy & happiness to them. Even patients who cannot speak, or have no recognition (like alzheimers patients), just petting a dog will bring a smile to their faces. I think it's a super program since it does give the patients some unexpected happiness and pleasure.
