What are you doing to offset the raising prices of gas and groceries?

Luckily my grocery is only a couple miles away. If it ever stops raining I'm planting a garden, that should help. I don't eat that much meat so I don't really worry about those prices and I have about 20 cans of chicken and tuna in my emergency supply. I'll have to rotate them this year. Catch the sales! I wait till Kroger has their $1 then stock up. Yesterday I bought 10 boxes of dog biscuits for $1 each and they're usually $1.89. I don't buy pasta mixes or anything like that, I make almost everything from scratch. About 10 years ago it was more expensive that way but now it saves money!

We also cook from scratch instead of out of the box. We shop at Sam's Cluba and Walmart but I am looking for more ways to cut costs.

Well, I am attempting to cut and sort this huge pile of coupons for one thing LOL I let life get in the way of keeping caught up on my coupons. I'm really truing to watch the sales. I'm trying not to buy too many things we don't need....but its hard when I happen to be the biggest snacker in the house. As far as gas, school is over here next week which will save me a lot right there not taking my grandson to school and picking him up each day. School out also means I am out of work for the summer....no paychecks, but also no back and forth the work. Nothing much else I can do, most of the places we go we have to drive, and we don't own bicycles. I hear that if you keep your tank over 1/2 full you use less? Marsha

I'm afraid my response won't help most people as I'm retired, so some of the things just don't apply to a working household. Even though I live alone, I buy staples in bulk. I cook everything from scratch. .unless I get a real craving for brownies, then I splurge on a packaged mix because my made-from-scratch ones just aren't as good. ;) For the meat, I always buy on sale and always look in the reduced price section of my meat market. Sometimes I find meat that looks fresh. Sometimes it's green and I don't buy that. I try to buy veggies that are in season as they are usually from local farms and are cheaper. There is seldom "snack food" in my house. I try to keep a little fruit or celery and carrots to snack on. I usually use meat as a flavoring, not a main course. I use some pasta, but it's not good reheated, and brown rice, potatoes, beans, lentils etc. to fill out the meat dish. I never go to town just for one errand. I live in a rural area and my nearest grocery store is 7 miles away. Everything has to wait for my "shopping day" which is every 7 to 10 days.

OH yes and I forgot to mention, I pay all my bills online. If I have a package to mail, I have a postal scale so I can weigh it and print out postage from the internet, then call for a pickup so I don't have to drive 10 miles to the post office.
