Tagging Discussions....Do you?

Should we add tags to discussions we respond to. I was reading here the other day that some people were putting bad tags on discussions. I used to tag my responses, but haven't been lately. It seems to me that if you start a discussion, then you should be able to tag it the way you want it. What is the purpose of everyone that reponds to your topic adding their own tags to it? I was just wondering how you guys felt about this and if I should resume tagging my responses to others dicussions.

ROFL lol. I was just thinking about putting up this EXACT discussion. lol I do. I tag my responses. I don't know why. The box is there so I do it. Sometimes there are already to many tags to add one or I end up tagging it the same as it was so it doesn't matter but I do it. Every time. lol

Well, they say great minds think alike...lol. I checked out your profile and it looks like we have a lot of the same interests...that's wild. As far as tagging, I think I'll skip it for awhile. I wouldn't want to place a tag on someone's dicussion and place it in a catergory that they may not appreciate, but by the time I get more responses, you guys may change my mind....who knows.

No, not hardly. I only tag a discussion, if I am submitting it. That is the only time that I will tag it.

i look at the tags on the post before i type out my response and if theres a tag that comes to mind that isnt already there i add it. Otherwise i dont tag everything. It gets very repetitive after a while

You're right, it is very repetitive and kind of gets annoying.

Good question. The box is there inviting us to add tags, so I had been doing that. Then I started just ignoring it.

Thank you, I have started skipping them also and think I will from now on. To me it's kind of ridiculous.

If I am starting a discussion, generally I use two or three tags, if I am responding, I usually use one.

I agree that we should add tags when we start a discussion, and I do add as many as pops in my head...lol, but I have stopped adding them on comments. I am not sure how many tags you can have on one discussion, but if everyone can add tags, you'd have tons of tags by the end of the discussion and it would be all over the place.

I have tagged some of my responses, thinking that I was tagging just my response. Then I realized the tags were for the whole discussion, so not I figure the person who posted it would already have used all the relevant tags. Also, it doesn't seem you can see the original tags when you get to the "submit tags" stage, so I forget by then what tags were used. I would just tag responses now, if there was an obvious tag missed, if there is a variation not included (say for example, "NJ" if it was tagged "New Jersey"), or if a tag was spelled incorrectly.

I should also add though, that even though I would theoretically tag under those circumstances, I really haven't been bothering much since I realized that the tags pertained to the whole discussion.

I agree, people that started the discussion should be able to tag their discussion the way they want it. I used to tag responses I responded too, though not so much anymore unless the person that started the discussion didn't put any tags for one reason or another. If I remember to do so I will help them out and add a few tags regardless to whether or not I respond to these discussions. But I only put tags that pertain to the discussion.
