GOING GREEN...a good cause or a good marketing tool?

It seems like you can't do anything without hearing about 'going green'. It is all over the news, radio, television, supermarkets, online and even at banks or other businesses. These everyday things(just to name a few) now market their products with a 'green' slogan: Poland Spring, Windex, BP gas, most major car companies, snapple, Tide & Downey clothing detergent, Loves diapers, Sony, Glade, V8, Kotex etc. the list goes on and on!! I commute to NY for school and when I go through the tunnels my radio is interrupted to tell me to go green by signing up for EZPass. The other day my college class was cancelled to 'take time to reflect on ways to improve the environment'. I personally think this is going too far! It is truly overwhelming. Companies are all just jumping on board to appeal to the new craze in my opinion. WHAT DO YOU ALL THINK? Fell free to add to the never ending list that I began.

Going green is the way to go, and with the heightened awareness to global warming and greenhouse gases etc, it is only natural that people become worried about their environment. This is where multi-national businesses are in fact just being multi-national businesses. A new opening has made itself known on the market, and businesses are just taking advantage of it. It is up to the consumer to exercise discretion on what is truly a "green" product.

Of course people are concerned about our environment, it is very important to protect. Is it right that businesses take advantage of something that everyone should be conscience of on their own? There is so much being dedicated to going green that the actual product is lost and a majority of the time it isn't any safer for our environment. The shape of my water bottle is not going to save the earth. It is marketed claiming that it is easier to decompose with the new shape but the reality is-if everyone recycled their bottles (regardless of shape or size) the plastic is being reused and saved. There are simpler ways to contribute instead of believing that paying an extra dollar to have your water in an eco-friendly bottle is the answer.

i think that the gas stations going green is a great idea for the enviornment. at the bp gas stations they have these envoirnmental tips on cards that you can take home. what is so special about this is that the cards are made of hundreds of seeds. You can actually plant the cards in your back yard and if they blow away then flowers will start to sprout up where ever they wind up.

I actually think it is a little of both. I fully support doing things that are good for our environment. I have always been a conservationist and an environmentalist. I am far from a tree-hugger, but I believe we have a responsibility to future generations to take care of our planet. It is important to do things like recycle, and it is vital to replant the trees we lose to logging and wildfires. Trees will produce oxygen, and use carbon dioxide. More oxygen and less carbon dioxide will mean less global warming. Other people share my opinions. Which is what makes the "GO GREEN" thing a good marketing tool.
