Tissues or hankies?

Do you prefer to use tissues or those wonderful old fashioned handkerchiefs? I use tissues but have considered using hankies lately because they seem more eco-friendly...don't produce all that trash. I just have to get over the fear of putting a snotty germy rag back in my pocket/purse. :)

I prefer to use tissues. I don't like the thought of putting a snotty hankie in my pocket and I do not carry a purse. Growing up my dad always used hankies and I thought it was so gross.

Yeah, my dad would always use hankies too. I think he still does most of the time. When he was growing up in Europe during the war they didn't have tissues so I guess the habit of using handkerchiefs just stuck.

When I was growing up, my mother would always make sure I have a hanky with me. However, the problem with a hanky is once it gets dirty, it's not hygienic to use it again. It just feels gross, and you don't want to carry it around in your purse until you get home. I prefer tissues. They are convenient to carry, easy to get rid, and you do not have to reuse them. I know it is not eco-friendly, but tissues, I think, are bio-degradable, so that is a consolation. So between tissues or hankies, I prefer tissues.

I always like tissues, they are very handy. people don't use hankies anymore, well the older people do.

You make a very good argument for tissues. Thanks!

During my school days, it was a common thing for me to always bring at least one piece of handkerchief. Not for anything else, but I'm used to bringing a hanky everywhere I go. However, a lot of things changed since I got married more than five years ago. Whenever my then boyfriend (he's now my husband) would invite me to visit his parents and siblings in the province, the hanky I brought would almost always be left in their house. Either it escaped my thoughts or he would tell me to just leave it with him so that he'll be able to wash it before returning the same to me. If I may say, his body perspires so much that he needs to always bring a small towel along with him. Unfortunately, it's very rare that my hankies would be returned to me. But I've got no regrets since I still get to see and use some of them together with our spare clothes we left in my in-laws' house. Now, I often use tissue in the office but I leave my stock here in the workplace. We still use hankies and small towels when making trips to the province because our trip lasts from five to seven hours; and going to malls and grocery stores. I think the hankies are more hygienic than tissues. That's my personal opinion, anyway. Regards.

Yes they have lots of really pretty embroidered hankies...I think the monogrammed ones are cute too.

I much prefer tissues over hankies, because I can just throw away the tissue after, and I don't have to keep it around, complete with what I have just blown into it. I think tissues are more sanitary, because you can just flush them down the toilet when you have used them.

I agree, it seems more sanitary and less messy to use tissues. I guess tissues weren't even invented until the 1920s so before that people had to use hankies or their sleeve ;-}

I cannot bring myself to blow my nose into a hanky made of cloth. I would rather throw it away than wash it..and yet that might not be good for the environment.

I use kleenex. I can't get used to the idea of washing a hankie and then re-using it. Though I agree with you, it would be much more eco-friendly.

Hi There, Well...I actually prefer to use hankies. I just like the feel of them and the fact they do not fall apart. However, they are hard to keep clean and always replace...while kleenex are handy and easy. Kind of a toss up so I end up using tissue. cheers,

Finally, someone for the hankie faction...sort of ;) I agree with your argument. I also like the feel of hankies but tissues are easier and cleaner.

Handkerchief is something I used when I was in Primary School. How I miss those days?.. Now, I no longer use only Tissue. I certainly think it's more hygienic. But I do not mind carrying a handkerchief around (especially those ultra cute ones).

It will definitely be tissues for me.. lol ^_^ I only used hankies when i was a kid, and carrying a hankie with my neatly gel hair, will make me look like a perfect school student.. lol =P As i grow up, i dun use hankies anymore because i find it, too old for me.. As i think that either small children or old ple will choose to choose hankies.. As for teenagers and adults, tissues will be just fine.. haha

Hankies are nice from a romantic point of view. But for actual use, no. Tissues for me seem more sanitary. 1 use, and throw away. Not use and put them back in your pocket.That is kind of icky.

I use both but I always use tissue since it is disposable. I mean, you don't have to keep it after you use it... you just dispose it right away.
