Okay, I want to start out no I'm not lazy so please don't call me that. Anyway, we have two offices at work...well the other office took most of our work and we're just taking phone calls now. It was really slow today with the phones, whenever it gets slow I like to check this news site: and I love to check mylot. Well our computers have flash disabled and the website uses flash adds so I can't enjoy it because it crashes the browser. And today they blocked myLot from work. WAHHH! Like I was saying I'm not lazy, but if you're not going to give me work to do in between calls then of course I'm gong to go on other websites. Other users visit Yahoo Answers which they haven't blocked, but they did block all of our emails...grrr. Do you have any other similar situation? What would you do in my situation? Thanks for the responses.

I can relate to you Pablo. When I was studying in Thailand I got an unlimited access to internet and I thought that I could maximize my opportunity to earn online. To my dismay, they blocked most of my paying sites and even paypal website with the exeption of mylot. I was so disappointed that I couldn't log on to most of my favorite paying sites even if I use my computer in the my dormitory room. There was nothing I could do to fight for my right. The school IT had set the server to block some sites automatically.

Thank you for replying. Well the thing is for so many months our email was blocked then a few months ago it was blocked. Then facebook/mylot wasn't blocked but just a few days ago they blocked those. They have the right to do that because they want to make sure we're working, but as I was saying if you don't give me the work then I have to keep myself busy doing something, right?.

Yea, I know what you mean. That really sucks. It's like they don't trust their workers. But it could be that other workers are not really responsible but they can't just single them out so they have to implement the rule to everyone. I'll tell you what, if I were you I'd take a pen and a paper and write all the things I want to post in mylot then when I get home I will just type them. But it may be boring to you. I don't know.

I know you wont like this but they are right, after all you are on company time and that is how they expect you to use this time, for work, not for pleasure or to surf the web or talk to friends on the internet. Most businesses have blocked the use of the internet on their computers because of people using them for things other than work. Put yourself in their place would you want to pay someone to do something other than the work they are supposed to be doing? Your supervisor should have something for each and everyone to be doing during this lull. Sounds like the supervisor is lacking in some areas.

Yes you are right! However we didn't have work so it was hard to just sit there and look at the computer monitor without doing anything right? You may want to look at my other discussion in regards to the game we played on Friday. You're right the supervisors are lacking in some areas.

it haven't and i hope it won't happen to me. does it mean that they caught you doing mylot than working that's why mylot has been blocked in your office? gosh! i hope it won't happen to me. anyway they can't blocked it that easy. coz i have an administrator password. but i think it'll be very shameful for me if they caught me mylotting instead of working. anyway, i don't have much to do. i think i should be more careful now. friendster has been blocked already here. thanks for the posts! it awakens me a little. :)

Technically they can't say anything to me because obviously I only go on websites when the company website is down or when they have no work. Basically if they had enough work I wouldn't be surfing on ther sites, right? I imagine they scan what goes in and out via the firewall and when they think something is suspicious they block it. They blocked all the mail servers (well most) such as gmail, hotmail, yahoo, juno mail, etc. The only one they didn't block is a very little email I use. Sometimes I check it when there isn't any work. I'm not sure why they didn't block Yahoo Answers that is very popular here at the office.

when I worked it was not in an office so did not have the luxury of tuninginto the net at all. How do you get by at work using the net, so many places 'get all up in a huff if the staff is on the net. I am not accusing only asking lol.

Yea I had jobs without computer use, too. Well they didn't give us enough work to keep busy and so we were sitting there for hours without anything to do. Don't you think that is stupid? So I wanted to go on mylot to pass the time, but they blocked it. I wanted to go to 20minutos, but the block flash so the site was messing up. So the onl thing I could do is just it there and be bored. Sorry, I don't try to abuse the internet use at all. If they gave us work then I would do it, you know?
