Could you live without television for one month?

No depressing news, no political babbling, no commercials? Could you do it? And, if you could, what would you do with that time not spent in front of the box. I know its summer and most shows are on hiatus until the general viewing public has no choice but to catch back up with their favorite TV characters, but now would be a great time to try it. Who's with me?

I think I can! I don't have a television on my apartment. That's why I'm not that updated to television shows. I get my news straight from my computer. I can live without a television but I think I cannot without amy computer with internet.

I can live without television for a year. I,m use to it. I,m a student who study at school away from my home, the room I rented doesn't allow tv. I miss watching television every now and then but I'm not dying for it.

In America all of the television shows are stupid. Keep studying, you'll be smarter in the end.

Once in awhile maybe I'll watch a movie because I think I should spend some time with the kids & hubby while they are watching it...but I'm definitely more an internet person :) We going 9 days no tv and no internet on our vacation. I can't wait!!

Welcome to myLot. Its true, you can get information from other sources. TV thinks they are the primary resource, they're not.

I can. I remember we don't have one when I was young. There are so many things to do when you aren't preoccupied with TV. People would be hanging out more often, as there is nothing to do in their spare time. It would be a good bonding time for family members, listening to stories each would tell. Some would engage in a hobby. There are so many things to do when you are not distracted by the TV, just use your imagination and creativity. Life wouldn't be boring at all.

I agree. People spend too much time watching non creative programming and loosing their creativity in the process.

I lived for seven years in an area that had no TV signal. It was nice, I did a lot of reading. But I also got bored and stir crazy in the winter when it was raining and I was tired of reading and had nothing else to do. Now a days I do not know what I would do with out TV and Internet to entertain me.

dear gitfiddleplayer I think though tv is a part and parcel of our day to day life and we are very much addicted. In India peoples are so crazy to view their favourite serial. But frankly speaking I am not a regular viewer of tv I only watch news channel & sports channel that too not on regular basis. I can live without tv for one month. pkc3000

No i wouldn't like to but i could if i had too. I wouldn't like to give up my laptop and i could live stream any shows i would die without seeing. Which isn't many at the moment. I always have the TV going in the background or the radio. But i mostly like to be on my laptop.

TV's seem to have gotten bigger because they are trying to outdo the movie theater experience, I'd rather do something on the computer anyway. BTW, love the screen name!

We were once without power for a week, during an ice storm and at first I didn't know what to do without tv. But after awhile it didn't bother me anymore, I got to catch up on my reading. By the time the power came back on I wasn't missing the tv, it actually gave me and my husband a chance to actually talk to each other every evening. So I could do it again if I had to. It made you wonder what they did in the old days when there wasn't any electricity, things were so simple back then. We're spoiled these days...lol.

Spoiled rotten! I think TV takes a part of us we can never get back, too bad about the ice storm but it sounds like it worked out anyway.

I think I could, it might be hard at times when I want to watch my soap opera and such but I bet I could manage to do so. Now if you were to ask my kids this question, I bet their answer would be No! Cartoons is all I have seen since they have been out on summer vacation from school.

Yeah, I could probably last a month, heck. months and months if I wanted to. But uh, I don't want to, =) I mean, if I did I would be awfully bored as i'm stuck with dialup and we're in middle of nowhere so there isn't much to to do..=/

195 people around does seem like a small amount of connections, so TV might be your only escape.

I rarely watch TV anyway. I have my favorite shows, but I don't watch anything on a regular basis. We had a hurricane come through once and knocked out our electricity for 5 days. It didn't bother me at all. I have a ton of hobbies that don't involve electricity, let alone the TV, so I was just fine with it. And I caught up on some reading, so that was great.

I book marked your website, I'll check it out later. Most people would freak if their power went out, good thing you have a mind and know how to think.

Ahh, noo. Especially not in the summer! It's too much... I need the world news, the other people, and the shows. I could do without the bad killings on the news though.

I went a year without television, and survived perfectly fine. Cable TV costs too much these days to bother with it, sometimes. Now that I have several roommates we can split it all quite nicely. I would rent DVDS, or go running, catch a show, or study (this was while I was in college.) I would be with you...but my new roommate has a huge plasma screen TV that I just have to try. And having just moved to a small town...........TV is keeping me sane. :)
