Working in the Restaurant business,I can't help but notice People who, once they get their food in front of them,AUTOMATICALLY reach for the salt and pepper and whatever other condiments are available before they even taste it...It's a habit,I know, but what if the Chef accidentally oversalted the food? Do you do this? have you noticed it in others?

I have a vague memory of doing this when I was a kid. I think I only did it because everyone in the family did it. One of those learned family rituals, I guess. I haven't done it in years (decades) but I have seen several family members do it regularly. One brother-in-law in particular always adds pepper to his food before he starts eating. I think he is addicted to the hottness as he has always done this. When he was in the armed forced, he would use a black pepper brand he could only get from the base store. It was HOT!!!!
