hi friends, I was under the impression that we loose memory with age, but now a days I see that even young people who are below 40's or even 30's are forgetting things. I read the other day that we should do brain exercises to make new brain cells. If my friends on mylot have some information about this, please share........thanks.

Our brain has the tendency not to take seriously the the matters that we think are not so important to us and doesn't register it properly. If you want a good memory power you got to pay full attention to the complete details of the things not in a hurry. Has anyone ever forgets how much of money a person owes to him?

Come on Apsara. Don't try to spoil me by calling me intelligent and all.I am a very simple honest down to earth freind of you. If you are stupid I would like to have more stupids around me and will change the meaning of stupid from all the dictionaries. Now coming back to movies you have said exactly what is in my mind. Each and every movie we have seen in the theaters was an experience. You can recollect the preparations and the friends and families with whom you went and the movies' stories and dialogs .As I said each and every movie is an experience. I swear I don't remember the names of the movies I watch nowadays and keep renting the same movies again and again from the library. The best part is sharing the feelings with like minded people like you.

Hi bala........to tell you the truth, I sometime really forget how much money I have in my purse, because usually , I don't have.......I depend on my hubby's wallet Your are right bala, only things whom we don't give full attention right at that moment, we forget soon. Remember when their was no TV and VCR etc and we use to go to theater to see movies, even today we remember those movies because we had our full concentration on them. But now when we see so many movies on TV or DVD etc.......we don't remember anything. I already found important help from you Bala.......Why are you so intelligent and me so stupid.....

I guess puzzle and other form of games where we use to analyze more is very helpful to enhance our memory and at the same time to make our brain works constantly.

I have a good memory and I like to believe it is because I make my brain work and not let it rust. I've always had a good memory and I still continue to have it. I have to consciously store things in my head to remember it. But if I've done that, I've always been able to recall what I've stored. I went to a Personality building workshop when I was in my 20s with my dad...and I always won the Memory contest..lol At that point I thought it was because I was the youngest person there...but now I realize that was not the case. It's just that I know how to store and recall information from my brain. If you want to remember something...associate something wierd with it and see it in your mind. You are bound to remember it when you need it.

sandiya my dear.......first of all you are still very young, and on top of that you are a teacher, and teachers can never forget things as they keep on repeating again and again the same things and so the brain has no chance to get rusted...lol, so I bet your memory is wonderful. Also I agree that the best way to remember is to associate one thing with another. This I had read from one of the books from my father's study room.......and during my examination I used it a lot to remember things and also when I taught spellings to my daughter ,I used this technique.

Aprsara, the golden rule regarding memory is - We remember only those things, in which we are interested, if something or some event or say someone does not evoke any interest in us, we will forget that. Forgetting events and little little things is very common. Our brain is a store house, sometimes, due to over-crowding and pre-occupation, it cannot remember all the events. Brain exercises such as solving cross word puzzle, sudoko or playing rubic cube are some the of exercises, which can help sharpen one's brain. And if you wish to remember anything, see it as a big image, if you want to remember a person's face magnify it manifolds in your memory/brain and you will not forget it.

Hi deepak, Yes you are right, when we really want to remember something , we do it........so it all depends on how much importance we give to particular matter. Thanks for the list of brain exercises....I will add chess also to this list and keep it in mind for my old age....... Right now we have mylot as great gift to use our brain and keep it active. Have a nice day.

I agree with your views and Chess also helps us sharpen our memory. Otherwise, participating in discussions on mylot on various subjects is not less than a good brain exercise. When we write responses on various topics, we need to jolt our brain from slumber and writing does help us making our mind active and alert. Have a great day!

Aside from being here on mylot, I also enjoy reading. I believe reading is a good habit to exercise our brain, to keep activity and to maintain being informed. Some games can be good as well, like chess and/or solving puzzles..

I think my daughter is more forgetful than me, So I dont think it is just those above 30. I think we should keep our brains active always and do a lot of reading. Also jotting down things in a dairy and reading them regularly helps us remember.

Everything would be so much easier if I get a little better memory. I guess even the exam would be easier for me, because I have problem with remembering all these things.

Learning helps prevent memory problems. Not just little facts here and there, but really getting into a topic, doing research on it, learning all you can about the subject. This makes you think... keeps your brain active. Just like muscles in our bodies, "If you don't use it, you lose it."

Hi friend, yes you are absolutely right dear, we must keep our brain active and for that we should never stop learning, the more and more new things we keep learning, the better will be our memory. I think learning more and more languages is interesting and also good for brain cells. Thanks for your reply.

I would say this and many people could disagree but I think people start to loose memory of things they do not want to confront or they feel bad about it or something related to that. My memory is perfect and I do not do exercise, the only thing I make sure is to be honest as much as possible and keep my integrity in! I hope that helps.

Hello,Apsara! For improving your brain power and improve memory you are required to start meditations.through meditation only this can be achieved and there is no medicine developed so far to improve the memory capacity, though some medical pharmaceuticals claim to have developed medicines.don't depend on these fake medicines, instead start meditations.thanx.

I think most brain stimulating tasks can improve your memory, such as reading out loud and fast and doing fast but simple maths. Try this website for brain training http://braintrain.com.au
