Race With the Devil!

Do any of you remember the movie "Race With the Devil" from the mid-seventies? I remember it was very heavily promoted when it came out with the trailer being shown on TV every few minutes, or so it seemed. I remember wanting to see it but for some reason I never did until the other night when it was on TV. It starred a young Peter Fonda, Warren Oates, Loretta Swit and Lara Parker who was best known for her role in soap opera "Dark Shadows" and was about two couples - one probably in their late thirties to early forties and the other probably about ten years younger - who set off on what they thought was going to be a wonderful vacation in the older couple's motor home. Unfortunately on their first night the two men happen to witness some kind of ritual ending with a young woman's murder. The girls, completely unaware of what their husbands had just seen, turned on the lights in the motor home and started calling for them to come inside - BAD IDEA because the devil worshipers or whatever they were saw them and that's when the horror begins. Did anyone else here see it? I won't give away any more but what did you think of the ending? Annie

I saw it a long time ago, but then within the past year, I've seen it twice. I consider it a "forgotten classic" because I think it's a good movie that almost no one has ever heard about. Not that it was deserving of any Academy Award, but it was very effective (and still is) in scaring me. The first time I saw it, I really liked the ending, but then a lot of movies started to have endings like that. I don't like it when current movies end in a similar way, but I don't mind the older films because it was a new twist back then.

I agree, it is a forgotten classic. I remember thinking how much I wanted to see it when it came out but for some reason I didn't, then I forgot about it until I saw it was on TV the other night. It was scary, wasn't it? Even today I was shocked that it just ended like that! Annie
