eclecticsteve started a new discussion called window middle or aisle seat in traveling.
I almost always get an aisle seat for medium and long trips and a window seat for short trips (one hour or less), but lately, I've sat in the middle seat, and I don't mind it as much as I used to, but that's only for short flights. Do you have a preference on which seat to sit when you are in an airplane?

eclecticsteve started a new discussion called Tip for Turndown service.
I've always tipped in the morning for housekeeping service in a hotel, but in those instances where the hotel has turndown service, I never have - usually because I don't know about it until I come back to the room afterwards. When I am in the room, I turn the service down. What is the protocol for tipping the...

eclecticsteve started a new discussion called Obama and the Nobel Peace Prize.
It's always nice to see someone from your country win the Nobel Prize, especially if it is your leader. I'm glad he said in one speech that he doesn't deserve it. I'm also glad he is accepting it even though he feels he doesn't deserve it. He didn't campaign for it - the committee bestowed it to him without his knowledge. To decline it would be an insult to the committee and telling them that t...

eclecticsteve responded to a discussion called i just eat sushi just for the sake of using chopsticks. in sushi.
It is funny that when I eat at an Asian restaurant, and the restaurant has both chopsticks and a knife and fork set, my non-Asian friends who know how to use chopsticks will use the chopsticks, and I sometimes will use the knife and fork. As for sushi, I always use chopsticks, as I think if I used a fork, the sushi would crumble before it hit my mouth. Chopsticks are like fingers, so as long as...

eclecticsteve responded to a discussion called Have you ever had complications from getting a flu shot?.
I've never had any complications from the flu shot and I've been getting one each year for many years now. Sometimes, on the following day, the muscle will will hurt at the location where the shot was given, but the tenderness will be gone by the end of that day.

I don't think I use chopsticks correctly, but I use them "more" correctly than other people. Thank goodness I don't have to follow any chopstick use rules in the United States - I'd always be scolded for using chopsticks incorrectly. I agree with the metal chopsticks in the Korean restaurants - it takes getting used to, but so does using short and long chopsticks. I'm Japanese and I am less pro...

eclecticsteve commented in a discussion called Have you ever had complications from getting a flu shot?.

The last time I had the real flu - the influenza virus - was in 2003. I did get the flu shot that year, but it was an early flu season and I contracted the flu about three days after I received the shot. That didn't give my body enough time to produce the antibodies. This would be the only time I've gotten the flu since getting the shots. Ironically, the shot may not have worked in 2003 anyway ...
