Insomnia and Hypersomnia: Ever Experienced Both?

May 27, 2008 10:33pm CST
Insomnia is a medical condition when your body refuses sleep While Hypersomnia is also a medically proven disorder when you take too much sleep that it's abnormal. I am diagnosed with both. They say my insomnia is a double-edged sword which means if i'm not sleeping at all, i'm sleeping too much. I know, it's weird :D Anyway, have you experienced both episodes? My friend's mom is also has this. It's just sad that one time during her hypersomnia attacks, she caught an accident since she was driving when she fell asleep. She didn't get herself injured though but my friend who was riding the car almost fell into a comma. He's ok now...

yes and no..hypersomnia i hadn't had since i was a teen,it would flip back and forth, now i just have the chronic insomnia,i have to literally exhaust myself before i'll shut down.on the one hand,i get a lot done, but some days it's plain annoying when i need sleep for the next day,and it won't let me.

sigh...i can feel your pain :( although i can't exhaust myself to sleep since most of the time, the more tired i am, the less possibility of me dozing off...anyway, have you tried taking in sleeping pills? or you're not allowed to, since you have a history of hypersomnia? hopefully, we'll get by :) thanks for dropping by!

I do suffer from both too.. I just cant sleep in the night and once i fall alseep, i will not wanna wake up no matter how late it is.. I guess, there's something weird with my sleeping pattern and thus causes the disorder.. hehe

Is this in any way related to Bipolar disorder? I know that sleeping alot is one of the symptoms and I struggle with it. I also suffer from insomnia. Not easy to live with, but I keep trying.

I don't believe this is one of the symptoms for Bipolar Disorder though i think it is for manic depression...but i'm not really sure though... It's a comfort knowing that there are a lot of us and hopefully we'll be able to get used to being maladjusted most of the time :) take care!
