How many 2ND CHANCES to say it's OVER?

I have friends who decided to put their friendship into a higher status. Before I was hesitant that the relationship would work but it did. And I learned to accept their relationship. Now, I am the one encouraging them to be back together. My other friend told me that she has given him so many chances; their relationship was on and off, and off. She can't give him another chance because it may happen all over again. She's just cautious. My other friend is not asking for a second chance; he is for the LAST CHANCE. Now, I want to ask everybody, How many 2nd chances shall be given to say it's over? How will you know if it really should end? I want to help them be OK. But I want to know what is the right thing to do.
