Annoyed...

I'm sick of having people I tell that I'm a swimmer say, "Swimming is a sissy sport. Go try some other sport like football." The only way I can get them to shut up is by pulling up a sleeve and flexing. I mean, it's not that I have anything against football or anything. I play it a lot with my friends and I think it's a great sport that's really fun. But just because in swimming you don't have to withstand someone charging into you doesn't you doesn't mean it's easy.

Yeah, I know exactly what you mean. I love swimming and I get really angry when people say that it's "boring" or "requires no talent." Grr. Once I had a classmate who thought that swimmers must go crazy because all they do is swim back and forth, stare at the bottom of a pool, and can't talk to anyone. Well he was a cross country runner and I asked him if he had long chats with his buddies during training or if he went crazy just running around all day. Ugh, he made me sick. One of my favorite quotes (I don't entirely agree with it, but I still love it): "Swimming is a sport. Everything else is just a game."

Swimming is said to be the best exercise since you aare both exersicing and at the same time still enjoying. It's not a sissy sport even if you don't use your brawns to swim. It needs a lot of brains and presence of mind to stay afloat and notm panic. I just don't understand why some people (a lot actually) enjoy a game where they use their muscles and brawns to hit someone and brawl over a little piece of leather while calling it a sport.(LOL)Swimming on the other hand is a more dignified way of exercisinmg without unnecessarily hurting yourself or anyone else. But as they say to each his own.

Swimming to me is more of a challenge because you are often challengeing yourself. It also seems to use more thought and energy to get to where you want to be in the way you want to be there than running around letting other men knock you down for a ball. Never have understood playing football!
