I can't help but feel sorry for my daughter Amanda LOL. She is going to cook a meal for her boyfriend for the first time tomorrow and she is so nervous it is pitiful!! It is something very simple, a hashbrown casserole and chili, but she is so afraid she will burn the casserole!! I have told her that if she keeps an eye on her watch while she is getting ready that she shouldn't have any trouble. She said "Mama what if I still burn it?" I told her "It won't be the end of the world honey." Mark keeps telling her that he is really looking forward to eating her meal tomorrow night and I think that is just adding to her nervousness. I'm sure she is going to do fine but I remember the first time I cooked for my husband before we got married, LOL, and I was nervous too. I'll post an update after it is all over. Thanks for listening!!

Aww--I do hope things go well for your daughter for tomorrow's dinner. Yes, it can be nerve wracking to fix that very first time meal to impress someone, and yes, you'll have to keep us posted how everything turned out

Can I tell you a funny but true story...this has to do with my grandmother and was told this by my mother..talk about first cooking meal gitters. My grandmother had just gotten married and she wanted to show off her cooking skills. Now to be honest, my grandmother (nor mother) were great cooks...THE cook of the family had been my great-grandmother (I inherited her skills thank God...LOL). So here is my newly married grandmother and she wanted to impress her newly married husband by cooking the upcoming Thanksgiving dinner all by herself, no help from her mother. So everything did look delicious, the turkey was all nicely browned, everyone is sitting around the table...she, her husband, her mother and father. Her husband is given the honors to carve the turkey...uh..yes, it LOOKED cooked...but when he carved into it is was still raw..!!!

Oh Bless Her Heart!!! I bet she was feeling so humiliated!! That sounds like the first time I tried to cook a turkey myself. I forgot to take out the pack of parts that they put into the middle of the turkey!!! We wondered why it was taking so long to get done LOL!! Thanks so much for sharing that with me. I love to hear stories like that!! :-)

Thanks hon, she will appreciate your suppoert. They have only been dating for three months but it is very plain that they love each other dearly and she wants to make a good impression on him. From a mother's standpoint I can tell she has impressed him already LOL but this is very important to her and I'll be glad for her when she doesn't have to be nervous anymore. Thanks for your response!!

I was nervous the first several times I cooked a meal for my husband. It took me awhile to feel comfortable cooking. I didn't get married until I was 39 so I had spent a long time eating sandwiches. About the only time I cooked was Christmas and Thanksgiving and that was usually just for my mom and I. I would get nervous just doing that.

I remember the first meal I cooked for my husband before we got married. It was tacos LOL!! My parents were gone somewhere and left the kitchen to me. Steve fell asleep on the couch while I was cooking LOL. When I had finished I brought my cat in and put him on Steve. He walked up on Steve's chest and woke him up putting his cold nose on his nose Ha! Ha! Steve nearly whipped me for that Ha! Ha! but he did enjoy the tacos Ha! Ha!

Doesn't she cook? Oh this could be hilarious. Maybe after this she can practice with a few of their favourite dishes so she doesn't get so nervous. I hope it went off ok....I'm running late as usual.

Good Morning! Yes, she cooks some but not all the time. She was mainly nervous because she wanted to make a good impression on him. She knows he loves to eat LOL and she wanted to make sure he likes her cooking, especially if they get married. But it did turn out well and he enjoyed it very much LOL.

I woudln't be nervous. If two people are truly in love, it doesn't matter if she burns it, he'll still want to eat it ust because SHE made it, and he loves her that much. I'm sure if they really love eachother, it'll turn out well, no matter what happens.

Hi Amber! Yep, the way Mark feels about her I'm sure you are right LOL. He keeps telling her he knows she will do fine, I know because she still tells me everything LOL!! But she won't be convinced herself until she has cooked it and knows that he likes it. He is coming right after he gets off work so the verdict will be in around 5:30 Alabama time Ha! Ha! Talk to you soon!!!

I'm sure Amanda will do just fine cooking a meal for Mark, though I can imagine her nervousness about fixing her first meal for him. And I'm sure even if she did burn it that he would love it just the same. Let us know how it turns out!

Wow, poor girl!! I feel for her. I remember the first time I did that, I was nervous for a few days too. I even ordered a ready made dinner to have as a back up in case I messed up. I'm sure she will be fine, just tell her in a few years she'll be burning meals on purpose just so she won't have to cook! Good Luck and let us know how it goes!

hi SheliaLee I also remember the first meal I cooked for my hubby although I am now a widow. I made a salisbury steak with gravy and mashed potatoes and green beans. 'everything came out perfect until we got to my dessert. a lemon meringe pie. The pie itself was perfect so I expected a great rave for it but the fact of the matter was so different I was in tears.he said just like a man thats a really great lemon meringue pie but I do not' like lemon meringue pie. I was appalled and in tears, and he apologized for hurting my feelings. we laughed later about it though.lol.so I do hope your daughter Amanda fares a lot better with her first meal for her boyfriend then I did.

It's understanable how she feels being nerviouse and all for she wants everything to be perfect and him to like it. As long as she takes your advice and watches it she should be fine. I hope he likes and enjoys the meal. Let us know how she did for I know all will be just fine and she worried over something silly.
